"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Thanks, Randy, I appreciate your prayers, and my neck procedure will be through the front also.

Mayonardo, thank you, and you're right about the MRIs, they were extremely uncomfortable with my neck so jacked up. I also had to wear a kind of cage over my face, which heightened the claustrophobic feelings even more. No fun at all.

Well Porch Pals, my life of athletics and physical labor has finally caught up with me. After several weeks of terrible neck and shoulder pain I went and had MRIs done, and I have spinal stenosis and disc protrusion from C3 through C7. Lots of neurological symptoms forced my hand, and I'm going in for spinal fusion neck surgery on August 16th. The weeks of forced inactivity prior to the surgery might be worse than the cutting itself. I'm bored stiff. Prayers are appreciated!

Very sorry to hear this Jeff :( I hope you make a very speedy recovery

@knarfeng Campbellclanman Campbellclanman Thanks to all for the positive remarks about my wife. We were elated at the news. As a matter of fact, the Oncologist released her and said there was no need for another visit to him; however, she will still get a CAT Scan every year from our local doctor who found the spot on her kidney in the first place.

Once again. Thanks to everyone.

That's a real bummer Jeff. Best to you and prayers up. Keep us informed when you can.

A very important note here - Do exactly what the doctor tells you to do and do exactly what the physical therapist tells you to do and even though they're not watching, do your exercises and therapy at home too.

Sorry to nag but somebody's got to do it.:)

Jeff, I'm sorry to read about your recent pain. :( But I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis that identified a reason for it and a way to fix it. I'll be praying that your surgery on Aug. 16 goes well and that your rehab/recovery will be quick and complete. I think the surgery is on a Friday, and, while planning on attending your weekly Monday Mamba festivities the very next week seems too optimistic ;), I hope you're back to your normal activities pain-free ASAP!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Does spinal fusion on your neck mean you'll have to enjoy Founders Dirty Bastard (and your tea with RALF) through a straw from now on? I'd sure hate to think that you'd have to make your Case Beer Belly a safe queen instead of a user!

Well, I'm about ten days behind.
I've been back East to see family and buy toys.
The most expensive thing I bought was Bugs Bunny in Syracuse:

Something over $9.
This travel razor was $8. This might be great for trimming my animal mustache into an Errol Flynn mustache.

These all represent my favorite kind of knife purchase: an unappreciated treasure in the $5 box.

The ruined cel scraped off the Camillus Jack very easily. The shield says something like Crowell/ Apprentice/ Ladies Home Journal/ The American Magazine. And my initials. The Imperial is shrinky dink, worse on the other side.
The Kutmaster Barlow was $10 last year, and I couldn't pry open the rusty blades to see that it was a Kutmaster. It was worth the gamble this year at $5.
Parthenon? Akropolis? churchkey and Nibco money clip, $2 each.

Little Falls is a favorite place ($0.50) Acme Thunderer apparently made for Wilson, $2.

My absolute favorite way to acquire a knife: my cousin gave me Uncle Don's Brazilian poniards! She knows I love them, and she'd verified that her kids weren't interested. !!!???

I forgot my most expensive purchase was a cane for $10. You could say that I need another stick almost like I need another pocket knife, but this one has a little button reading Howell/London/England, and has some fancy shaping under the crook. Pic later; I'm exhausted.
