"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I was moved/transferred to an "assisted living center" yesterday. :)
I shouldn't be surprised, since I can have my Archery and muzzleloaders here, (and my compact 1911) but the facility actually has a current subscription to 'BLADE' magazine!
Surprisingly, they said I can set up a arrow stop in the backyard and shoot archery; as long as I keep my promise not to target their cuddly little kitty, the steaks on the hoof in the field next to the back yard that belong to a neighbor, or one (or more) residents or members of staff. :)
Even better, they have no problem with my carrying one or more knives while on the property. :)

Sounds like you're in a good place.

A little further, still good.

I'm trying to wait overnight before I trim off the raised rim on the faux bolster. I probably won't, and it will probably be fine.

Thought I should drop by and say hello I thought my music life was over when I was injured and then got so sick especially now that I live in a wheelchair but come to find out there's a lot of folks wanting me for session work. So I have put the knives aside and I'm back in my element and it's changed my life around and given me purpose again. I'm currently working on two studio albums one with a singer songwriter the other with a group put together to make this CD. I also have another project coming up so life is good. In don't how long this will last but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here. I do have so many wonderful friends here I will always pop in to say hello and I'll still be coming around often to check in.

Great to hear you're doing OK Randy :)

Are Astros fans still triggered as they approach or walk into Walgreens? Or has the shock finally subsided?

Leghog, you might as well post in Martian for me! :D ;)

You sound pretty upbeat and with reason, your new home sounds pretty laid back and accommodating, still,
I imagine you are also having an OH shit moment or 4. I surely hope you are well and settling in to a great place in this new phase of your life. All the best, my Brother.

Waiting. That's the hardest part of working with epoxy. :p
It's looking good.
Thank you.
Yeah. It was five-minute epoxy, but I was afraid it wasn't going to set at all (maybe I'd put too much chalk in it). I already trimmed it a bit and filed it a bit. It's strangely uneven, the desk must not be terribly level, but it's covered. It'll do.
Anyway, the main blade is strangely uneven, too, so it harmonizes.

Harmony is important.

I'm so happy for you Randy. Kind of sad that you won't be hanging around here as much, but that's great that you will be able to leave an indelible mark with your music. Good luck, remember us all when you get famous!

That's great news Randy. I definitely understand how hard it can be to keep up here when life starts getting busier. I got a permanent job as an archaeologist at a museum, and between the job, two small children, and a few other projects, it has been very hard for me to spend as much time here as I used to. I'm glad to hear things are going well for you.

@r redden Hey Randy I had a jam with a fellow member of Narooma Mens Shed...
He is Moroccan ...really good guy and makes Lutes from scratch using australian timber...so me on the dij and him on the lute making a weird blend of music....sounded great ahem if i say so myself...he was being filmed by some people from Sydney...fame at last...im hoping to be able to view and hear the result.
Cheers.
