"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

There seems to be a lot of talk about narwhals lately, so I couldn't resist. I'm trying to decide if I want to make him darker, or leave it be.

I wasn’t sure where to put these and I didn’t think it warranted a new thread, so here we go. This is my current collection of knives—the ones that I carry. I have one gift knife and a few others that weren’t in close proximity and which I didn’t think to go grab.

Fixed blades (Morakniv that I made into a convex, Roland Lannier paring, & a Timothy LaCombre neck knife):

In some ways my small collection is pretty eclectic, but in others it is pretty much the same: a like midsized to larger knives with single blades in wood or micarta.

Very cool group, Joshua! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
At first, I was all distraught, thinking, "What happened to your AC?" :eek: But now I see that not ALL of your knives are pictured here. ;)

Nice collection! It may be a bit eclectic but to me, your discipline and focus is pretty clear. Very admirable.:thumbsup:

Nice collection Joshua, very thoughtfully acquired from the look of it :) :thumbsup:

I think it looks great just as it is, the detail is amazing!

Nice work Rachel, very cool :cool:

Great idea r8shell, well executed!!! :cool:
Thanks, guys. From the pictures I was working from, narwhals are much darker, but I think I will leave it as is.

Very nice collection. :cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, everyone, for your encouragement!

Very cool! Are you going to make something with it, or just keep it to display, as is?

(I checked your photo to make sure I got the twist going in the right direction. Whew!)
I think I will display it!! I have looked at it many times now, and it is so incredible as is, I don't think I can bear to cut it!:rolleyes:
I am glad the twists jibe!!:D
Great skill you have, Rachel!!:thumbsup:

Nice job Rachel!

Charlie, i thought we were using that tusk for the knives that GEC is making for the Old Knives posters?

The tusk feels dense and durable like other ivory, but science has discovered it has a sensitive connection to chemical changes in nearby water, when live!!?? Interesting. Drones have now caught Narwhals "bopping" nearby fish with their tusks, and eating them when stunned!!

They all look like great knives, Joshua JTB_5 JTB_5 :cool::thumbsup:

That really is beautiful Rachel.

Great collection Joshua.

That's pretty cool Charlie. Being a tooth, how durable is it? Does it feel like an ivory tusk?
Thanks everyone! It has taken me some time to figure out what I like and don’t like. Some folks know immediately, but I’ve always been slow to learn myself.

GT, I don’t know what happened to me, but I did take a picture of my lambsfoot last night. For some reason I didn’t post it here, but it got it’s own special spot—it didn’t even share the spotlight.
