That is exactly how I deal with most “upgrades”...

I have developed a very efficient workflow over the years, and I want software to support me achieving and possibly improving that efficiency. I don’t want to have modify my workflow just because some software developer suddenly decides that I should be doing it a different way, and removes or cripples some prior functionality.
I'm with you, Tom!

Call me a curmudgeon, but I'm not looking forward to my next car purchase simply because I dread having to learn to operate all the "new" technology that I probably won't appreciate even after I learn how it works. (Our current vehicle is a 2005 Civic.)

I’m with you on that Gary. I drive a 1998 Suburban that I bought in 2001. When I get in my wife’s car the only thing I know how to operate is the accelerator and brake!🙄

Too funny. A couple of years ago I had a car in the dealer for some repairs. They gave me a new Pacifica mini van as a loaner. Driving it home I felt like I was in the space shuttle 🚀
By the time I returned it I had three conclusions:
1. The Pacifica is a very nice driving vehicle;
2. I preferred my inherited 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan
3. Its easy to see why distracted driving is such a problem. Its not just phones. What brainiac thought it was a good idea to put non-tactile, touchscreens loaded with features in moving vehicles? In all fairness I imagine that once you all interconnected you can do most stuff by voice command. Think "HAL" 😃

I didn't care about all the gee-wiz gadgetry in it. Probably because I didn't know what anything was and was afraid to touch most of the stuff :p

Right? Dumbest thing ever.
My truck has a smart touchscreen display.
Randomly as your driving along, a message will pop up stating that's it's dangerous to take your eyes off the road... and then you have to hit "okay" to clear it. Must be the Brainiac's much dumber brother that came up with that winner 🤪

I hear you on the voice thing. To tune the radio you push a button and say the frequency you want to hear. I told my wife I would rather just turn a knob, she told me to get over it because I’m probably the only person she knows that actually listens to regular radio anymore anyway!🙄
It also has alerts for when you get too close to the edge of the road. Which ever side of the road you get too close to, that side of your seat starts vibrating. So when my back is sore, I tend to ride the white line!😉

Save money and don't buy a new on! Easy on you and the wallet!

Newest vehicle we've ever owned is a 2004... and thats space age compared to my daily driver--1978. :D

And thats once you figure out how to start it!!

Some friends rented a 2018ish something... ford as I recall, last year... took 25 minutes to figure out how to start it...put key in and turn on... no starter there. There was a push button down by the console/floor shifter!!! I've been told its a common feature.

You’re right I forgot about the push button starter, which works as long as the key fob is close enough. 🙄😁

Don't even get me started on those gigantic key fobs they force us to carry in our pocket.
Maybe there's a new market for me... Key Fob Slips. 🤪
There you go, what a great idea!👍 The remote unlock feature on my 1998 fob works great as long as you are within arm’s reach of the truck. I bet that was some really cool technology in 98! 😎👍

I am one that does not like change. When I saw the forum was updating, I was expecting that I would have some issues. However, I am quite happy with it. The search function seems to work like it always did, the way I use it anyway. I also find that it runs much faster than it used to. One thing I don't understand (on both the old and new platform), what happens when you follow someone? I thought that I would get an alert when someone I was following made a new post.

Jack Black Jack Black , I found one thing about the software update you might like:
It looks like the ability to export private messages is back. That is, I think it is, I need to test it out.

I messed around with that function a couple days ago. I like that it's available, but the results are a little bare bones. (To be fair, I didn't try out all of the different file formats, some of which I've never heard of, but the default HTML file didn't seem to be much better than plain text.)

I've been saving mine as WebArchive files for a few years now, which I like because creates a file that looks and acts exactly like viewing the message here on the forum. Unfortunately, I think that file format might be specific to and only compatible with the Safari browser on Mac. I don't know if there's a PC equivalent, but if you have a Mac, it's the way to go.

I never carry my key fob. I'm looking at getting a newer truck in the next few months or so, but I'm dreading the fact that a lot of newer behicles don't work without the fob. A big lump of plastic on my keyring doesn't make me happy.

My wife’s new car has the fob. It works great for her because she can just leave it in her purse. With the push-button operated starter and door locks there is never a reason to take it out. If I ever have to drive her car, I put the fob all by itself in my left front pocket (which is usually empty), and leave it there. I never attempt to touch the radio, and don’t use the rear view camera when backing up.

The separate key fobs are easy. Stick it under the drivers seat and leave it there. Unlock doors like a normal car with the key.

The ones that are a pain are the ones where the fob is made onto the head of the key.

A buddies new 2020 Ranger has a fob, with a button on it, push it and the key blade flips out switchblade style.. Nifty, but still annoying.
