"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Gratefull Dead once, but sure enjoyed them!! Woodstock, 1969!!
Got there before the crowds, before the New York State Thruway was closed!!
Parked my VW van on the brow of the hill overlooking the stage, and got to watch from the sliding door - shelter!! My first wife!! We woke to Hendricks' "Star Spangled Banner" on the last day, when the sun shined again!!

What the,you saw Jimi play then, WOW and WOW again.

If only I could be transported back in time,a lot of people dont listen to the full version of that song its of the scale.

When I was promoting bands (for fun not money),I called my promotions "Stone Free".

I missed Woodstock! I might never get over it! :D

The wife and I just got back from a trip to Santa Fe, NM. We were visiting a daughter, granddaughter and meeting our 9 month old great grandson. It was a great trip, except for a canceled return flight which got us home late and necessitated an extra night in Albuquerque. Don't get me started on flying!

I took a new knife with me, that I'd just received in the mail a few days before the trip. It was a huge surprise, and was totally unexpected. Our esteemed forum friend and most excellent master of many things leather, JohnDF JohnDF , had contacted me that he wanted to send me one of his knife pocket slips. I gratefully accepted his offer, as I had admired his work. Much to my surprise the slip arrived with a knife in it! A Fox Cutlery Recoil Gunstock with M390 steel and Bocote handles! I asked John if he'd inadvertently left a test knife in the slip. He responded that it was intentional. What a surprise! A fine knife! I let John know that he can expect to see something in his mailbox, as a thank you for his generous gift.

Anyway, pics or it didn't happen!
Here's my new knife and slip sitting on the window sill of our room at the La Fonda on The Plaza in Santa Fe. Next up is a pic out the same window.

Santa Fe is a great place to visit, and the hotel we stayed at is a historic old hotel, quite a beautiful place.

Ever have Rainbow Trout for breakfast? Along with some other tasty items.....

Here's a pic of the hotel from the street. Notice the Cutlery Shop just behind the parked black Chrysler? Well I have stopped in that shop every time we've been to Santa Fe, and this time was no exception.

Lots of great sharp stuff. I should have taken a few pics of the displays. My bad. I did pickup a lock back that was a salesman's sample from the days when Santa Fe Stoneworks would apply their craft to Camillus knives. Since I live about 20 minutes from the old Camillus factory, and my son lives in Camillus, I thought this would be a nice memento to bring home. It will likely end up being a gift for him.

We had a great time, a great visit, and we're glad to be home!
Thanks for looking, and to JohnDF JohnDF , thanks again for the great gift and the great surprise!

Congrats on a wonderful gift Peregrin Peregrin Gary. And a tip of the old sombrero to John JohnDF JohnDF for his generosity. Trout for breakfast sounds delicious and healthy. New Mexico is a wonderful melding of the cultures with an extra helping of beautiful landscapes. Welcome home!
Oh, believe me Alan, there was plenty of unhealthy food and drink also! ;)
In general we have met wonderful people, and the surroundings are very beautiful. Does take a day or so to get acclimated to the 7,100' elevation.

I broke down and ordered the molded plastic sheath.

I was contemplating my materials, and reflecting on my skills, and I thought, "Just how much is $20 these days anyway?"
I didn't spring for the clunky plate with the belt clip. The sheath has eyelets all around it; I can hang it anyway I want by means of laces.
[Wait a minute, DST ended Monday?]
