"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Hey folks! Hope everyone is having a great holiday season and staying safe and healthy! Remember to appreciate and cherish your family and loved ones at this time of year and year-round. That includes pets!

You just never know how many years or days you will have with them. If there are important things to say, say them. If there are fences to mend, mend them.

No, I have not experienced a recent loss, nor am I expecting an imminent demise, but these are things you think about as you get older, and good to remember.

Most of you probably have no idea who I am (I don't post much these days), but I still check in and read regularly. I have not been adding to my collection for a while (but not selling either!) so I don't usually have much to add. I try to contribute here and there, though. :)

I have been one of Santa's elves for the past 15 years (meaning: I work for a company which does most of its business this time of year) so I will be glad to see the holiday season end. But I do hope all you good boys and girls out there get something fun in your stockings, so even though the work can be a bit stressful, I still enjoy it.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or just in general Have a Good December depending on your beliefs or inclinations!

You've had an interesting career trajectory John ;) :D Have a Happy Christmas my friend :)

Here's me playing Santa at a local community centre ten years ago. I had so much padding I thought I was was going to die of heat-stroke! I did it a couple of years running. I'd need less padding now, but I was glad to retire! :D

Great post, John! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs!😁
I don't get to say that as often as you'd think, considering my grizzly eminence of years.

Merry Christmas yourself.
Jer, I haven't spent much time pondering egg sucking grandmothers. It should have been right at the top of the list of ponderables. ;)

You make a great Santa, Jack! Is that a sack full of pocket knives you've got there?

Thank you Gary, it was an interesting experience! :D I don't think there were any pocket knives in the sack, as far as I remember, but the young lad in the Superman outfit is my mate's eldest, and he has had quite a few knives off me since then :)

That’s great, Jack! 😁🎅

For Eleanor’s 1st birthday, back when we lived in Arizona, we went to our favorite local brewery to celebrate, because her birthday happened to be the date of their annual Christmas in July event, where they break out a few reserved kegs of their Winter Warmer and decorate the place up with Christmas stuff. They had a Santa there, and Eleanor got her picture taken with him. Not long ago we were looking back at the pictures, and Eleanor said, “Dad, I don’t think that was the real Santa.” 🤣

That's so funny Barrett! 😁 Great pics mate 👍

I've told the story before, and have still not managed to get hold of a copy of the photo, but my sister has a photo of my niece, from when she is about 2. She is sat on Santa's knee, and looks terrified. He has 'Love' and 'Hate' tattooed on his knuckles! 😳🤣

If the right one don't get you, the left one will. Or weel, rather, to rhyme with steel.
I've told this traditional Christmas tale before too, but one year I was sure I'd been bad enough to get a lump of coal for Christmas. I was going to save it in a sock all year and beat the crap out of some poor department store Santa with it.

It wasn’t your mate with the tool stall, was it? 😉😁

After someone sent me this,I prank called Best Western hotels.

When they said Best Western hotels,I said did you say best western?

When the lady said yes “Best Western”.

I said I like High Plains Drifter with Clint Eastwood and True Grit with John Wayne is also good.

When the lady laughed I wished her Happy Christmas she returned the compliment.🤣

Red River would work too. Or She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. Or Big Jake. Or The Searchers.
