"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

And if there's a Western Musical division, I'll vote for Paint Your Wagon.

One of my all time favorite movies :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Makes me smile just thinking about it :D
I think I still have the soundtrack LP in the basement somewhere. I once lived with several guys, all of whom (except me) were members of various college choral groups, and a medley from Paint Your Wagon often broke out spontaneously while washing dishes after supper. Tough to beat Lee Marvin singing "I Was Born Under a Wandering Star"! And the vocal stylings of Clint Eastwood are priceless!

How about the Lonesome Dove miniseries? Wouldn’t say it’s my all time favorite, but I enjoyed it a lot and it did have Robert Duvall in it who is one of my favorite actors. Really like Open Range also.
I really enjoyed Lonesome Dove; my wife and I have watched the entire series several times (and I like the book at least as much as the TV miniseries).:cool::thumbsup:

And if we're counting TV westerns, probably the first western I watched was The Lone Ranger, and all other westerns are measured by that standard. 🤓

"...vocal stylings of Clint Eastwood" 🤣

I've read the book also and it's just as good as the movie. One interesting thing to me is that it was the first novel I read by Larry McMurtry. I enjoyed it so much I bought Mcmurtry's "Anything for Billy". It was so bad, I never read anything else by him. One was superb. One wasn't. Maybe I should try one more 🤔

I was quite a few pages back, but now for some reason I have a craving to put this album on... :)

Hey folks! Hope everyone is having a great holiday season and staying safe and healthy! Remember to appreciate and cherish your family and loved ones at this time of year and year-round. That includes pets!

You just never know how many years or days you will have with them. If there are important things to say, say them. If there are fences to mend, mend them.

No, I have not experienced a recent loss, nor am I expecting an imminent demise, but these are things you think about as you get older, and good to remember.

Most of you probably have no idea who I am (I don't post much these days), but I still check in and read regularly. I have not been adding to my collection for a while (but not selling either!) so I don't usually have much to add. I try to contribute here and there, though. :)

I have been one of Santa's elves for the past 15 years (meaning: I work for a company which does most of its business this time of year) so I will be glad to see the holiday season end. But I do hope all you good boys and girls out there get something fun in your stockings, so even though the work can be a bit stressful, I still enjoy it.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or just in general Have a Good December depending on your beliefs or inclinations!
Thanks for the Christmas greetings, John, and I hope you and all the other BF members have a Happy Christmas and a Blessed New Year! 🤓

Back when you posted more regularly, John, I always appreciated you as an excellent example of "let cooler heads prevail" among the masses of us caught up in knife mania!:cool: 😁

All my favorite Westerns mentioned, hope you don't mind me switching genre to recommend a movie currently available on cable here, "Knives Out". A who-done-it murder mystery with more twist and turns then Formula One racing. Siskel and Ebert might have given it four thumbs up     and the title fits the Forum. ;)

I've seen it happen many times in real life... if there's enough pressure on the rope.
If they are sharpened the right way: reprofiled at 10° per side on a coarse stone, honed on a fine stone for edge keeness and stropped on Russian foal leather, then no pressure needed.

Dan.

I actually saw something new in The Bishop's Wife last night. There's a scene earlier that tells you whether the angel is being honest or manipulative in his last scene with the wife.
It's a bit that a child wouldn't understand if he noticed it, and I first watched this movie before the invention of UHF, on a bakelite-cased B&W with a 13-channel selector knob. At that age I admired the bishop's house and the professor's wine cupboard more than the bishop's wife.
It's also a bit you'd never expect from Cary Grant.
