"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

GT, I had a character building moment, just "liking" your post!
I'm headed to sainthood now or nirvana depending on your persuasion. :)
Sounds like you're actually succeeding in building character, James!:thumbsup::cool:
So far, I've recognized opportunities to build character, but I haven't taken advantage of those opportunities! ;)

I did another immaculate breakfall this morning. (I did one last winter, or maybe the winter before. I never could do a decent one in a gym; I guess falling by accident is easier.)
It was above freezing this morning, so perfectly safe, except for the smooth wet ice. I could sense it was smooth and wet by lying on my back on it.
I discussed it with the Lord as I crawled into the garage. He said smooth wet ice is like that, and I should be more careful on it at my time of life. I said, "Thank you, Jesus!", among other things.
Seriously though, no harm done but a couple of slight aches, which is something for an old geezer to be thankful about.

Note to self: google "tumbling for seniors".

I didn't realize that it was slow for everybody. I thought it was my DSL connection.
On the good side, I no longer feel alone in the wilderness 🏜️

Glad you're ok
No to be morbid, but a few years ago, a friend of mine slipped on the ice going to get the mail. Hit his head, never woke up, died a week later in the hospital :(

screened porch screened porch Falling over at any time of life is no joke, it just gets more familiar as we age....where was my Mountain Goat agility of youth???:eek:o_O Lies winded on the ground...

In our climate semi melting ice or pavements (sidewalks) shone to glass by snow movers but no grit put down, is not unusual.

I bought these a couple of years ago and never felt more secure. Not inexpensive, but light, comfortable, warm and wet proof. Not very friendly for walking on parquet or plastic flooring...but we remove shoes on entering other peoples's houses.

Just have to watch out for falling ice and snow from roofs :)

I didn't know that.
Thanks for the shoes tip.
I've never tried the cleats I pictured, because they look too tall and rigid. I suspect they'd be teetery.

Is anybody else getting quotes of yourself in posts where you're trying to quote somebody else?

 quotes of yourself....Sounds like Voices in the Head o_O

Relax, the Forum System is clearly going through a Nutter Phase, let's hope it shapes up soon...

I just started visiting this forum a few weeks ago, and I want to thank everyone for creating such a welcoming community here. I had a bad experience at another pocket knife forum, and I was afraid that they were the norm for the hobby. I'm glad to find out that they aren't. Thanks!

Welcome B1GHOT, glad you are having a better experience here. 😊👍

I don’t know if you are referring to the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades sub-forum (AKA “The Porch”) in particular as being welcoming, but if so, I would have to agree it is.

There are some forums where snark and condescension are the norm, but this place seems to attract gentler souls. There is no gatekeeping or exclusivity to it - folks who enjoy the atmosphere just kind of stay and become regulars.

In the end, the knives just become the excuse to hang around and shoot the breeze with buddies.

Anyway, Wecome!
