"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I feel really stupid but lucky to be alive...did a small garden job for friends this morning...thought why not go for a quick immerse in the warm salty water at my local beach..Josh's Beach its called...low tide plenty of sand...bit of a swell coming in ..but shallow for 100 metres before the breakers...got me flippers on and kicked away ...floated straight into a big chundering rip hole at the rocks...it wasnt letting me out...within a space of 6ft I was out of depth and rapidly out of breath...getting smashed by incoming waves I lost a flipper AND my boardies...so I'm going down.
I thought... rocks of insanity or death by drowning...With all my strength I swam into a crevice and despite the oceans attempts to drag me into its swirling torrent of death I clung to the rock and hauled myself out ...Like some sort of never say die, naked , ne'er do well, Narwhale I sat among the kelp and barnacles for a minute ...the tide swelling up and down trying to drag me back out...with perfect timing I scarambled back to shore...Thankfully no one was there to see it.
I had entered the food chain and not near the top.
Embarrassment Potential a solid 11/10.

Congratulations on your well played escape.I doubt I'd have made it. Except I wouldn't have been in the water, and I'm probably too fat to have been sucked in.
So, I'm sitting in my recliner watching my Alma mater Syracuse U play Wake Forest. Looking out the picture window, I see a reflection of the game on the TV, and just off the lower right edge of the TV, are the red lights of the Carrier Dome, where the game is being played. Oh, and I'm coon fingering my Halfrich Rounder as well.
Best part is I didn't have to go out in the -5F wind chill to see the game. Maybe even better, SU is up 20 with 3 minutes left in the game.
Now it's over 94 - 72. Nice to see the Cuse win one.

There are days that are not like the others. Today i received a parcel from a fellow member, JohnDF.

Useless to say how happy i am. Very beautiful piece of leather craft ( i can't make a picture which give it justice) and a very beautiful GEC #12 Templar.

John, thanks for such a generosity.

Dan.

Yikes! Glad you made it back and shared your story with us!

That is frightening!

This is the most plausible explanation.
These rip currents are frequent phenomena on the Atlantic coasts and cause many deaths by drowning.
Glad you survived. Take care Meako, take care. We would miss you.

Dan.
Yes Dan its an all too frequent cause of death here too...
Anyway I got home from that and a mate had sent this video...what are the chances? At lesst these wimps had boats...its an interesting film ...plenty of American history....

It was a great game, but I need to stop picking games. Good thing I don’t place actual bets. 🤣

Where’s here?

sounds like a good place to live 😂
JohnDF lives in a good place alright!! In California!!
My brother lives there too - just ask him where the best place to live actually is!! 🤣

Speaking of where, I don't really have enough Canadian knives to start a thread, so I thought I'd drop some pics of this one, Here in the "Lounge"!!
Russell belt knives are very popular FBs in some circles, so Grohmann Knives decided to come up with a folder to complement the market. I don't know how long the Russell design has existed, but the folders are quite interesting!! Here is mine, after a picture of their FB, not mine!!
