"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I find the flat grind Bird & Trout type to be really excellent, it fits the hand so well and slices or fillets brilliantly. Nice to have a Canadian knife.

Like me. That's what made me finally get one. I didn't have to anguish about grind or steel because shipping time from Canada in the lockdown was infinite, so I took what Llamaland had, which might have been my choice anyway. Stainless saber.

The #1.
What's Llamaland??

What's Llamaland??
From my extensive research (google) 🤣

Originally it was North America now Llamaland is in South America 😇

The ancestors of llamas are thought to have originated from the Great Plains of North America about 40 million years ago, and subsequently migrated to South America about three million years ago during the Great American Interchange. By the end of the last ice age (10,000–12,000 years ago), camelids were extinct in North America.[3] As of 2007, there were over seven million llamas and alpacas in South America and over 158,000 llamas and 100,000 alpacas, descended from progenitors imported late in the 20th century, in the United States and Canada.[5]

It seems to me that the seminal characteristic of the Canadian pattern is the lifted angle of the handle vs. the line of the blade. I can see that as an advantage in the kitchen when used on a cutting board, but how does it work in the field? I've never tried one, but am curious.

I think the rearward narrowing is supposed to lessen drag, also, but I'm blowing smoke even if they're not.

waynorth waynorth Right you are about the Sabre grind, it's why I chose the flat grind, makes a huge difference to this knife.

C cello -Dan I do like the Rosewood version I have but you are a really lucky man to have that Stag version  I'm really impressed by it, these are wonderful and underrated knives.

Thanks, Will

I TRIED TO QUOTE BOTH OF THESE GENTS' POSTS, TOOK 10 MINS OF PROBLEMS THEN IMPOSSIBLE. TOOK 5 MINS TO LOG ON, THEN I GET AUTO SHUT OFF, SEVERAL ERRORS & WE RAN INTO PROBLEMS etc. COMPLAINED LIKE OTHERS ABOUT THIS HERE, GOT REDIRECTED TO ANOTHER THREAD, SAW LOTS OF OTHERS HAVING ANNOYING ENDLESS PROBLEMS BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO HAPPEN: Not only is this ludicrous but it's dysfunctional in the extreme. Why pay to have a forum that it's increasingly difficult to make contributions of any kind to?
