"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Unfortunately, the saber grind impedes smooth slicing somewhat!!
It strengthens a blade, but tends to "wedge" into material, rather than slice!! Only a super sharp edge can combat that action!!

Is that still applicable if you’re slicing SPAM? Asking for a friend…

I know y’all have been waiting on the edges of your seats for an update on the boat

Well, it still hasn’t moved.

Which means in almost two months they’ve still only made it about 100 ft from the boat launch.

Apparently they were denied permits to transport it because the trailer was deemed unsafe by the sheriff’s department, and the guy has received a civil complaint from the county for causing a public nuisance, creating a dangerous situation and trespassing.

I've heard that owning a boat is expensive and time-consuming!
Where does one go to rent a bunch of those concrete barriers to wall off your boat and trailer from the riff-raff trying to use the road?

Thanks for the fascinating update, Barrett!:thumbsup::cool:

Great pics Dan :) How's the noggin buddy?

Thanks Jack :)
Took 3 days off to rest and take it easy, back to work today
I have some residual tenderness on the back of the "noggin", that's all.
Feeling well overall :)

Great looking knife Dan, beautiful bowls also. 😎👍
Gracias Todd :)

I was going to say something nasty about rich people, but if s~t/h/e/y were really rich, this problem wouldn't have lasted so long.
I wish I were rich enough to say something nasty about the not quite rich poseurs.

According to the civil complaint (which I briefly skimmed), the barriers were installed by the county to keep people a “safe” distance. The ground there is not level, and the boat is leaning quite a bit toward that side, which I believe is part of the basis for “dangerous situation” complaint.

Yeah, it seems like every problem this guy has run into has been the result of him trying to save a buck. Unfortunately for him, I think now he’s really putting that break out another thousand acronym to the test.

It's a "snow day" and I'm hunkered down at home.

Stay safe and warm! That video is great! 🤣 Personally, I don’t think I’d try to stop one of those land yachts with my body like a couple of the folks in the video did. Also, I feel like you could you drop that reporter in modern-day Austin and he wouldn’t look out of place at all. 😉

I haven’t exactly been on the edge of my seat 😄 but I have enjoyed the updates. Yeah, his issues definitely seem to be self induced. 🤣

Cool photo, Jer! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
How much snow did you end up getting Wednesday and Thursday? The forecast suggested more snow in Michigan the farther south one traveled. We got about 6" where I am in Grand Rapids, all on Wednesday.

About a foot, I would estimate. I throwed the snow twice on Wednesday and once on Thursday, and raked the eaves once each day. It was cold today but sunny, now there's a little more snow.
But Spring is almost here!

Sitting in a cold dark house, only heat some gas logs in the living room. Day 2 of no power after an ice storm hit. Based on the large number affected and the fact that our individual line is down, i would be surprised if we are restored before next Friday.

I'm glad you have the gas logs.
And the Vic.

No fun, John. Hope it is resolved soon.

That doesn't sound like a lot of fun John, hope things are fixed soon my friend 👍
