"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Cheers Harry...apparently Aussie Camels which were introduced...are now much sought after in Saudi for camel racing...
Got a better pic of the wallaby this morning and found where hes getting in..
So Aussie Camels must be fast!!!???

That wallaby looks well-fed!! There must be some good pickins in your garden, Jon!!

Happy Labour Day! (May 1st here).
That day you don't need any license to sell lily of the valley (lucky charm), there's tables in every street's corner. This one comes from the garden and for once is just in time! 😊
Talkin' 'bout luck, what better illustration than this 14TC, a cherished present from Our 🍁Charlie!

Here’s one for Jack Black Jack Black :

Found in my mother’s cupboard when I went looking for tea to make for her. She hasn’t been to Yorkshire in probably 20 years or more, so I assume she bought it stateside.

She spent a good part of her childhood near Harrogate before moving south to Hampshire, and used to go back there regularly to visit a childhood friend.

It might be wise to keep the sheep away from it - apparently they are terrifying enough as is, without being wired on caffeine…

DSC_0478.JPGAbout luck. This lily of the valley was picked in the woods while a cuckoo was singing (so to speak). I had time to put a coin in my hand. Back home I checked that the mountain ash I planted years ago is growing straight and tall.
Now i know GEC will make a four blades Congress pattern and i will afford to buy at least two of them.
If not, the word "Luck" doesn't mean anything.

Thanks a lot Tom :D :) I live very close to Harrogate myself :) Let me know if there's anything your mother wants sending over. I'll post a few pics for now (if you know where she lived in the area, maybe I have some other pics)

Thank you so much, Jack - that is an amazing and generous offer. Sadly, her dementia has progressed to the point where she remembers very little, so nothing will mean much to her now. If she does mention a specific place or item, I will let you know.

That's sad Tom :) The offer is always there my friend

Some of your "talismans" are new to me, Dan!! I hope you get those Congress knives you are hoping for!!
Mountain Ash Makes good walking sticks, if the "suckers" grow good and straight!!
I hope you all enjoyed May Day/Labour Day!!

I've indeed many "talismans", for many things, health, long life, money. For money, it doesn't work.
Thanks for your good whishes about the Congress pattern, my favorite one, elegant, comfortable with redundant mains and secondaries.
The mountain ash, also named "Rowan" is a mythologic tree in North Europe. It does make excellent walking sticks. For the mechanical qualities of this wood (similar to that of ash), for its durability and perhaps also because according to legend, one who travels with a stick of that wood will not be lost.
