Kalifornia weather has been really nice the last few days.it was 62 degrees in my house
I had always heard that Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."What is this thing you call, โMowing the lawnโ? I got up early and turned on the furnace, it was 62 degrees in my house.
An interesting link GaryI had always heard that Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
But after reading your post, I googled that quote to make sure I had it right, and discovered that Twain isn't really the source. Here's a link to what I thought was some interesting "literary detective work".

A bit late, but happy belated birthday, Gary!My wife and I took the train from Syracuse to New York City on Wednesday (my 72nd birthday). We usually make the trip once or twice a year. Last time was November 2019. We scaled back our travels due to the pandemic.
We always stay near Times Square and the Theatre district. We go to a Broadway show and a few restaurants we like. We love the energy of the city. It's a nice escape for us.
I always bring a slip joint along, and carry it when I feel I can, which is most everywhere.
Just a few pics, since without them it didn't happen.
We always try and get to the Oyster Bar and Restaurant at Grand Central Station. Best Bloody Marys in the city and the Seafood Pan Roast is a favorite of mine. Boker Club was along on this trip.

A pic of part of the restaurant and one of the interior of the station, a grand old building.

We always try and visit St. Patrick's Cathedral. I said a prayer for you guys....

Last night we saw the Broadway play POTUS. I haven't laughed so hard in ages!

You're welcome, Jack and Barrett; I wasn't expecting that Anchor Brewing site to be nearly as informative as it turned out to be.I thought of that quote, too, when I readsf fanatic โs post, and while I was aware that it was commonly misattributed to Twain, I didnโt know any of the additional information in the article you shared. Thanks for the interesting read, GT.
(I mean, who doesnโt enjoy learning literary trivia from a beer website?)![]()
I try to cover all the bases, Mike!...from a link on a knife website View attachment 1861849
For $15 you can take a tour of the brewery with the best part at the end in the tap room where they generously let you sample their brews. You're welcome, Jack and Barrett; I wasn't expecting that Anchor Brewing site to be nearly as informative as it turned out to be.

Yep, itโs always spring or fall in SF. But you canโt beat baseball, apple pie and cool knivesOkay... now I see... why you might want to live in California. 62 degrees on July 4th. Wowzza
Hope you are all having a great 4th.View attachment 1862192
I'll bet I'd have enjoyed that brewery tour in my youth, but I'm quite a "lightweight" when it comes to drinking beer here in my "golden years"; one beer every 6-8 hours is about all I can handle. For $15 you can take a tour of the brewery with the best part at the end in the tap room where they generously let you sample their brews.
Oh yeah, you might want to Uber there and back home.![]()
Cool, evocative photo, Dwight!
Haha! Thanks GT. There could have been hot dogs but the other would've had to be a FORD.But where are the hot dogs and Chevrolets??
