"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Food oils have been used to lube guns sometimes, so I’d guess the slip joint on a pocket knife will do okay with it. For food safe, food grade mineral oil would be my choice. And I say that.... with the caveat that I use my knives for food, and use regular 3in1 or honing oil for them. Good thing I ain’t in California where that causes cancer.
Heck, just about everything in CA causes cancer according to our state legislature! So…,If you gottem smoke em 😃.

Well to bring back the discussion to a firewood pile, a offer a pic (posted elsewhere) of a hickory I bucked up. Didn’t fell it, but I was gifted ownership of the wood.
Being a good porch hang around, I had the wherewithal to stop production for knife pictures.

I don't know how does hickory behave but i see some knotty logs which could be hard to split. Good luck.

Dan.

We've had the longest spell of over one hundred degrees with zero rain I've seen in at least 20 years. Been gettin worried about the critters that can't climb up on the bird baths so I made a little oasis for em at the wood's edge. I feel better now.

I wasn't listed in the obituary pages, nor was anyone I know. 😁
I read somewhere that most news outlets have the obituaries of famous people written in advance, to have it ready to publish quickly.

I wonder if us ordinary folks could write our own and send them in, to keep on file for us when our time comes? I’m sure it would make for far more entertaining reading than the usual pablum.

My father (99) has written his 5/6 times. His Army Air Corps pic is to be used. (B-17s & all that implies.)
Each revision, gets him closer to personally bombing Adolph.
Hey, I wasn’t there🤷‍♂️🤣

A few years back there was an obituary in our Sunday paper that covered an entire page. At the very beginning the family had written a "caveat" stating ..."The following obituary was written by the deceased prior to passing with directions to publish in its entirety." The old feller began at birth and left no stone unturned. If I recall correctly his most memorable accomplishment was "a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society". But by Golly he got it all told. :)

My knives will be my epitaph  Only trouble is nobody near me or in the frame know anything about knives nor cares about them. Another addition to the landfill....:D

The obituaries of the famous usually offend me as they're nothing more than a fawning pack of lies covering up the monstrosity of the powerful. However, I get amused satisfaction on reading an Obit of a famous name when the writer of the obit has pre-deceased the subject! The Grim Reaper Moves in Mysterious Ways

Got about 2/3 of it moved and stacked to season. I don’t have a truck, I move it in the back of my minivan, otherwise it’d just be one load. But you have to make do the best with what you got. I’m trying stacking like this for seasoning this time. Previously I just let it lay or turned the rounds on end, like the ones at the end of the pile. Those are for potted plants. Now we’ll just see what the wife does with them. And the end logs on the bottom both have limb stubs left to keep the pile from rolling in case anyone is wondering.
