"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Ok so I found a mechanic that was opened the day after Christmas. It's NOT a head gasket leak it's a valve cover gasket leak
Still not great, but a lot better than I feared

And I got the crap to fix the sink, gonna start on that here in a moment
Yay Christmas time plumbing work 🤣

Thank whatever God you pray to that is was just a valve cover leak. No top end job needed or damage to the head from warping.

Exactly!
That's what killed my wife's vehicle .. but luckily she stopped being able to drive shortly after the incident.

Long story but she is in a wheelchair due to west Nile and wear and tear on her and especially her shoulders leaves her unable to walk very far even with her walker or crutches
So we've been a one vehicle family since

Just need to vent post...

Saturday..Christmas eve after coming home from work I noticed my hood was absolutely steaming.
I couldn't tell from inside the truck but I could definitely smell the burning oil smell
Soooooo yeah I have a leak and I suspect it's a head gasket leak
That's just what I needed on Christmas Eve

Then yesterday, Christmas day the wife calls me from the other room in a panic
The sink is just pouring water and soaking the cabinet. Of course I happened to be in the tub when this occured.
I cleaned it out and noticed she had pulled the water line from the sprayer to the faucet out. I can fix that myself but I couldn't go grab one on Christmas day.

So yeah
Merry Christmas indeed
When it rains, it pours, better luck to you in the new year!

I hear on the news about "the storm of the century". Is everybody doing OK?

Lol sorry I spent the last few days venting here
I am in Mississippi, most of my family is back up north in New York
And my wife worries more than you can imagine

I don't really have a lot of people to vent to these days and I leaned on you guys, random internet people's :p
I appreciate it, even if I to, am random internet person to most of yall

I hope Peregrin Peregrin is ok, sounds like his area has been pretty badly affected ā˜¹ļøšŸ‘
I do hope Buffalo can dig out soon, and begin restoring services. They say this storm is the largest since the storm of 1977. I was in the middle of that one.
We're about 150 miles east of Buffalo in the Syracuse area, and got the cold weather and some snow, but nothing like that storm. Plenty of snow north of us also, around Watertown. We get our fair share of lake effect snow here, but we dodged this one.
I've got some nephews that live in Buffalo. They are pretty much housebound. One had no heat or power for quite awhile.

I was looking at reports of Buffalo this morning Gary, hope your nephew will be ok, and that things are back to normal again soon šŸ‘šŸ‘

I can't believe Buffalo. 27 dead so far from snow, in a great American city that isn't exactly a stranger to snow.

We were pretty well shut down Friday-Sunday, but I haven't needed my fireplaces, and it's supposed to be in the 40s for a few days starting tomorrow.

The sun is being coy,

but my walk and drive are ready for it.

I'm hoping my snowblower's transmission is literally frozen, and I'll be able to get it out of slow reverse soon.

Ironically I was born dec 77
In Batavia NY

I have no recollection of that storm but I grew up hearing about it
Also I lived in Syracuse for a bit, even enlisted from there in 99

We’re 60 mi. S. of downtown Buff., so it’s been our lifelong ā€œgo to, big townā€ There are no sissies in Buffalo.
Ethnically very diverse, as you would expect, but very friendly overall…and food..!!
Oddly enough, people in the lee of the lakes, wear the weather as kind of a badge of honor.
Iā€˜ve been through Maine’s 1969, 100 hr. storm (living on a 50’ yacht no less) and the storm of ā€˜77, back here, but this one has tragically been a killer, (28) with more predicted. And it’s still snowing! 4-6ā€ more today. I’m sure you’ve seen the news.
They will dig out, and move forward. That’s just how it’s done.

yup! We’re due south of Buff. on 219.
A previous neighbor grew up there. She’s now gone, and I don’t know her maiden name. Great country!
One of my favorite views is from the top of the hill heading to Mt. Morris. Such an expanse!

Weird times, weather-wise. We did not get much snow down here in SW Tennessee, enough of a dusting to look pretty and give us technically a white Christmas.

But the brutal cold took its toll on the utilities. We did not lose power but some did. The TVA grid (Tennessee Valley Authority) was overwhelmed at a time when two power plants were offline, and had to implement rolling blackouts in some areas. The impact we felt was that the water pressure dropped significantly due to multiple water mains breaking and the city has issued a "boil water before drinking" advisory. Water pressure is slowly improving as they fix the leaks.

And the weather forecast has the temperature rising into the mid 60s by Thursday. So we got our 5 days of Winter this year, time for Spring I guess. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
