"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Replaced the burners in my Weber grill yesterday, seeing as how parts of them had completely disintegrated. The company who made the replacement kit thoughtfully included replacement screws should I need them. I didn't need them. But that meant I had extra screws left over when I was done reassembling the grill. Now to me, extra pieces-parts left over when you are done is a red flag. So I spent an extra half hour taking the thing apart again to find out which screws I had forgotten to reinstall. Answer: none. Bother. I'm getting old.

No, you're just getting extra smart.

Drat! Now I've got to go check my Weber!

Is there an existing thread on Smoker's knives?? Anyone know??
The search function works poorly for my Luddite brain!!

Thanks! My wife spends a fortune on that tree. It's over 50 years old I'm sure. Sprays for this, soil injection for that. It better look good!
Viewed from my office window. It hasn't finished blooming yet.

I spent the last couple of hours rearranging and cleaning the garage. Got the snow blower and shovels in the back, the tractor, yard wagon and mower in the front etc. I'm sure it'll snow and I'll need to get at the shovels at least! Got everyting started and running good, and I'm all set to mow!
It is most assuredly a magnificent and dignified beauty.

At fellowship hall after church today, I got a plate of fruit for my little 19 month-old daughter. I heard a member ask my wife’s grandmother if I needed a knife to cut it up for her. I shouldn’t feel pride at church, but I did when I heard her grandfather say “he always has one”. The lady said my cattle knife was beautiful. More pride welled up. I’ll stuff it back down eventually.BF3ACC23-84FC-48E8-AC72-07187ED11313.jpeg

Pancakes with english walnuts, sausage and covered in Carl's Pennsylvania Pure Maple syrup. Doesn't get any better than this. And photo bombed by an iconic Pennsylvania Queen barlow. Rookie82 Rookie82 - Thank you Carl. It is heavenly nectar just as I expected! :)View attachment 2166059
I was thinking that from the word 'Pancakes' Dwight, and it just got better and better! Mmmm :)

Glad you enjoyed it. Fits right in with that Queen barlow. Titusville is only 20 miles away from where we tap our maple trees.

I swear I can't a break
2023 is going to be one of those historically bad years when I look back.

Lost my father in January.
Nearly lost my mother in March, but I think she is going to be ..ok. although I am not positive she will ever come home by herself. But still too soon to be sure
And now my truck has ... broken

Thought it was a water pump that blew but the tech says it's not that, it's much more serious. But he isn't sure yet, they had it in the shop all day and I still don't know what the issue is, if it's fixable or financially worth fixing. The mechanic said he hasn't confirmed it yet, but don't get our hopes up, it may require an engine rebuild..

I don't even know if I should start borrowing against my 401k and start looking for a new vehicle yet...or not

Can I just issue a existential scream and hope it makes me feel better?

And 2023 aint over yet.
Luckily for you Rsmith_77 Rsmith_77 bad luck comes in threes so you should be right for a while.
Your vehicle saga reminds me of an old Mad Magazine excerpt from years ago...might have been by the recently passed Al Jaffee. It compared oldspeak and newspeak.
Oldspeak mechanic: your Thelman wire is corroded..that'll be 15 cents.
Newspeak mechanic: Your Thelman wire is corroded..you need a new engine..that'll be 15 hundred dollars.

might have been by Paul Coker jr.
Keep Smiling.

Well ..I don't know if its a stroke of good luck or bad financial investment

But I talked to the service manager this morning and they said it's probably a rebuild...what's that gonna run me
Probably 10k

Should I just go start looking for a new vehicle
And they said...I would

Sooooo I tried my hand and managed to get approved for a 2014 Toyota RAV4
The payments will absolutely suck
But at least I have reliable transportation for me and the wife
