"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Darn! The listing says "1055 carbon steel"
Guess there no need to "upgrade" after all. Oh well. Coulda shoulda (woulda if I had known the future) bought one (or more) back indi 1990's or 20 Double Aughts. 🤨
No "biggie" I guess. I am pretty sure I can use that money for some arrows or a archery thumb ring, instead. 😇
I suppose it could be old stock, but looking at the listings on the auction site, I don’t think so.

The Colonial Mountain Guide came in the mail today, but the rest are from antique malls today.

The Camillus stockman and the Colonial (in an arch) Barlow were $5 each. The Camillus jack and the Colonial Ranger lockback were $3 each.
Almost like the old days, except maybe better.

Bacillus - bacilli
Camillus - Camilli?

Octopus - octopuses
Camillus - Camilluses?

I see no argument for “Camillusses”
Although the experts claim that the most commonly used plural for "bus" is "buses", they also say that "busses" is acceptable, and IMHO "busses" is far better than "buses" (which I'd pronounce "byooses" to rhyme with "fuses").

So, Tom, you may not have seen an argument for "Camillusses" before, but you've seen one now, such as it is. 🤓
(The plural of "octopus" is really "octopuses"? That just doesn't seem right!)

I always heard "octopi" as the plural of octopus, but Merrium-Webster says both are correct along with octopodes:

“The experts” does sound very authoritative, and it seems to make sense… must be true I guess!

:D

Im reminded of a visit to Sydneys Taronga Zoo...many years ago with my mate Hartley....we stood quietly observing the Galapagos Tortoise...this was back in the 80s when a certain cartoon and movies were all the rage....As we admired the giant beast a small boy ran up ...you know the kind hes already run around the whole zoo in 10 minutes flat....at the top of his excited voice..
"Mum, Muuuummm!! look..A TURTUS, A TURTUS !.
