"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

A mentor once told me the greatest blessing in the world is to recognize when you are blessed. Tonight was one of those nights. Spent the evening with my grandfather, two nieces, nephew, mother, step-father, daughter, and wife, and y’all I’ve got it made. Now I’m grilling steaks and drinking fine beer, with a good knife in my pocket, and my Gators going to the college baseball finals. Life is good!IMG_7467.jpeg

Or Organization of Surly Peasants! We need a union.
But speaking as a surly peasant, I just threw out my Pirages Boundary Waters Catalogue (should have a diaresis and an accent ague(I know I didn't spell that right)).

Million dollar knives, umpteen bazillion dollar ornamental innertubes... I didn't allow myself to look at the price of the two young women in the hammock. It might kill me to know.

Wise words indeed. There were times, a few years ago, when I would sit with my wife in our living room with our cats sleeping in their various preferred locations, safe and sound and mostly healthy in our modest home. I would take the time to just enjoy the experience, and I would comment to her (more than once, I am sure she was tired of hearing it) - "You know, some day, these will be the "good old days" that we are living right now."

That was before the pandemic, and resurgence of inflation, changes in the economy that have affected both of our working situations, some changes to our individual health conditions, and the passing of one of the cats. Those surely were the good old days, of 2019. Whenever you have a spot of smooth sailing, make sure to really soak it in, live in that moment as much as possible, because there are rough seas just over a horizon in one direction or another. Enjoy the calm.

Well said, John. I try and be thankful for every day I have. Some are better than others, but I can be sure there will be worse. Live in the moment!

Now I’m worried. Harvey cigarrodog cigarrodog hasn’t posted on the Porch for three weeks. I’ve PMed him and sent texts to him with no response. A little while ago I called him and his voicemail was full. Please send out good vibes for him. And while you’re at it say a prayer. 🙏

I guess I’m not much of a friend since I haven’t been paying attention. 🙏

Dan, I’ve been thinking about this ever since you posted in the Guardians thread the other day, and your post tonight prompted me to see what I could find out. Honestly, I hesitated a bit about posting this, as I’m not sure what the proper etiquette is here, but I think it’s fair to let Harvey’s friends here on the Porch know that he passed away recently. The obituary I found was dated June 18th. (I’m not going to post a link to the obituary here, as I don’t feel like it’s my place to do so, but those of you who knew Harvey well enough to know his last name and where he lived should be able to find it, or you can feel free to send me PM.)

I’m sorry to have to share the bad news. Harvey was a good guy and standup member here. He will most definitely be missed.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure it was difficult to write, but you handled it perfectly. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
