"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Sorry for your loss Carl. I have many fond memories of my Grandfather too, and he was a very influential character in my life.

Carl,
Like the others I am very sad to hear of your Grandad and friend passing.
He sounded like an amazing man.
I now have two wee boys - at 59 years old and that is exactly like the Grandad I want to be.
I can only imagine the comfort your Grandad felt when he opened his eyes and saw you there, that’s a lovely moment for you both.

Treasured memories for sure eh! 😊😊

Thanks again to you all. The happy memories certainly outweigh the sadness. A portion of who I am and how I act, my morals and principals and mindset, all came from his guidance. As many have pointed out, I'm lucky to have known him and had a close relationship with him.
Your grandfather left you some wonderful memories. You have a real treasure.

So much for kleenex-patched ball bearings in my 5', .50 caliber pvc blowgun.
I ordered some "spear" darts from you-know-who.

I'll try thicker patch material while I'm waiting.

We're in Florence, Italy and had a great meal yesterday afternoon. Spaghetti with clams and some spinach sauted with garlic, with a nice white wine.
I took a picture for Charlie waynorth waynorth . I thought about pocketing that plate for him.... 😀

Wow Gary, sounds like a fantastic time my friend :) Enjoy your well-earned vacation :) Love that plate! :D

Darned if I know, Jeff! But it was a local wine and a good choice. There were 14 of us, all family members, so we had a few different bottles to sample. We had a great time!
Sounds great Gary :)

Wow! Sounds like a wonderful vacation, Gary. Italian cuisine is the BEST! Pasta and wine and family....

With no offence meant to my many friends of Italian or Sicilian heritage...and having been listening to a podcast about the Mafia and organised crime in America whilst diligently redecorating my house...and as a result rewatching every movie of that genre I could find...I would have stuffed cotton wool in my cheeks and in a mumbling, nasally, half comprehensible voice.....
I like this plate I would consider it a favour if you gave it to me for our friend Charlie the Knife.
It's an offer they couldn't refuse ....it would be unfortunate if the clams met with an accident..🤌🏻😬😁

Sounds like you're having a splendid time in Italy, Gary!:thumbsup::cool:
When I was a lad, my younger brothers and I would dig up, with our feet, clams similar to those on the rare occasions when our Mom would take us swimming at Gun Lake between baling hay and time to milk the cows. We'd often collect a bucketful or more, and I don't remember what we did with them, but I'm sure we never even considered EATING them! Yuck! 🤮🤓

New Zealanders eat anything that comes from the sea...urchin is a special delicacy...along with highly prized narwhale blubber and zits. Legend has it they swim around waiting for rugby balls that have floated over from Australia which were thrown overboard in disgust after the Wallabies ppperformance in the RWC.🤨🙄

Thanks for the well wishes! We're having a great time!
I thought my forum knife was going to arrive next Tuesday, but got a message that they attempted delivery today! They are holding my mail until Tuesday so hopefully it'll be there when I get home.
Meanwhile I had to scratch that knife itch, so I picked this up in Florence, in a shop near the Ponte Vecchio. I'm very happy with it!

Watching the replays of RWC match NZ v Uruguay1000011036.jpgI stumbled upon living proof of my earlier postulation that they eat anything...have a go at this loathsome specimen...in rugby theres a term 'pick and drive' ...this kiwi klown takes it to a new level....The impressive pre match Haka by the All Blacks was only surpassed by the try celebratory booger...What a legend.
