Bother. I have now reached the age at which my doctor considers I am at risk for bone loss. So he sent me in for a bone density test. The test was not nearly as annoying as the thought that I am now a candidate who might need to get that checked.
Seems to be consensus that bone loss can be minimized by appropriate diet (consume calcium, Vitamin D) and exercise (weight-bearing stuff like walking, climbing stairs, strength training).

Frank the Rolling Stones sure got it right with the first line in there 60's song "Mothers Little Helper" it goes "WHAT A DRAG IT IS GETTING OLD"
I've been off here the last of couple weeks because of old age problems myself but feeling much better now.

Welcome to the club! I had one done last month. My test was okay but apparently the “bone” between my ears is extremely dense. 🤷😜

Randy, I’m glad you’re feeling better! I just hope you don’t need any of those “Mother’s little helpers”.

All of the above are already part of my routine. I just think the Kaiser Komputer that runs their show got triggered by my age.

Good day at the antique malls.

Morning porch mates,

Had a great time at my sisters wedding yesterday. It was stifling hot, up around 104F which was not fun in a suit. I was walking her down the aisle and just as I took my first step TWANG went my belt buckle, quickly took it off and chucked it in the bushes. Thankfully the strides stayed up! Just as they were starting the vowels a big gust of wind came in followed by a change and the temp almost instantly dropped to a beautiful 70F. A good omen of things to come for them I say.

Speech went well, most of the women and even a few blokes shed a tear which I consider a success. Unfortunately I was having too much fun and never got around to taking any knife photos but it did keep me company in my jacket pocket all night.

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon talking to my wife's uncle, Bill Lonagan. Bill is a 92-year old 20-year navy man who lives in the area. He has the Irish gift of gab. Modoc ED Modoc ED You Navy guys are a caution, that's for sure.

We do the best we can Frank knarfeng knarfeng . It's most likely the "Sea Air" that's contributed to Bill Logan's long life. Never met an old sailor yet that couldn't spin a worthy yarn.

I know there's a few guys here who like to see what goes on during maple syrup season for my family. I'm a bit late showing what has been going on, but that's because it all happened in a flash this year. We tapped trees last Saturday and Sunday, gathered sap Monday, and gathered again Tuesday and boiled it all down yesterday. We ended up with almost 500 buckets hung this year, and collected 1000 gallons of sap so far in 2 days. My wife lit the evaporator at noon yesterday, and we finally let the fire go out around midnight. We didn't have much help this year for gathering, dad drove the tractor, and I got the lucky job of dumping all 500 buckets. I have to admit I'm a bit sore, and grouchy.

If the weather forecast holds true, we'll be doing it all again Saturday and Sunday. I'm hoping some of the local friends and family stop by to help carry buckets.

Here are some photos of us tapping trees. Myself, my dad, my sister, my daughter, (my wife was taking the pictures), and my daughter's friend.

There wasn't a lot of stopping during gathering sap. Here are the only 2 pictures I have. My dad driving the tractor, with my daughter and my nephew in the wagon. And then later on, my sister and nephew in the wagon.

Once back at the Sugar House, the sap was pumped in. My wife cooked it down while we went back out for more sap. Here are some photos of the evaporator and the syrup cooking. And a few shots of the building, and our wood pile.
