It's quite understandable that we could all get upset from time to time and feel the need to 'withdraw' from the Forum for a while. However, I don't think weak moderation is an apt description at this point and indeed I appreciate low profile moderation .
The worst thing is over moderation by some control-freak....

this leads to a strangled Forum where the moderator(s) are an ever-present ego and a little clique emerges of moderator sycophants. This enables stagnation, policing, group-think which promotes a bullying lynch-mob mind intolerant of any other views. Then you can get these people egging moderators to ban people for the slightest perceived criticism, the closest they're likely to reach climax I suppose

You can find this elsewhere and I don't applaud it.
No, a tolerant behind the scenes moderation approach that emphasises politeness but allows people to vent (not rage) or disagree is healthy and to be valued. This is what we have here in place, very seldom bannings and a relaxed approach to tastes in knives (Traditional only mind !) and range of other opinions. We cannot and should not all be the same but so long as the same rules are enforced for all then we should be unafraid to agree/disagree.
Thanks, Will
