"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

We had the threat of torrential rain, flooding, and a tornado warning. Well, we got some rain but that's about it. As a reward for putting up with all the incorrect, overblown forecasting, we were rewarded with a magnificent rainbow.

We have hazardous outlooks, warnings , and advisories this morning:
There was fog earlier, it might rain later; and be fair, this is significant, the rivers and creeks haven't crested yet.
We had a long, soaking rain yesterday that would have pleased my dad, but it didn't even overload the catchbasins at the ends of my street. And my limited wanderings are on high ground, so my little center of the universe is fine.

Another funny thing about the weather, though: today will be partly sunny with very high UV.

For anyone in the PA or NY area, the Little Valley, NY knife show is this weekend. Free admission. Check it out if you are free. I plan on being there all 3 days. There is a website set up with all the info and address and hours and events.
Wish I wasn't 2711 miles away!!! :( (40 hours if I drive straight through!!)
Have a good show!!

I have several friends who attended LeMoyne College a few years after you were there, Charlie. Not that many years though!
There may be nicer places to live but CNY has become home for us, although we love to travel!

I had an interesting interaction with the clerk at the grocery store just now. Young man, very serious, with the kind of knit beanie that at least implies that he has dreadlocks.

I noticed a distinctive belt sheath and asked him, "Are you carrying a Buck 110?".

"Yessir!" He lit up and pulled it out to show me (but did not open it). (The young lady bagging my groceries grinned and rolled her eyes, so I wonder if others have asked him about the knife on his belt - most of the clerks seem to carry boxcutters.)

I told him, "That is an American classic."

He was still grinning as he handed me my receipt and said, "It gets the job done. And it's cooler than any modern knives!" I agreed wholeheartedly.

That was unexpected and delightful.

Thanks Ed, turned out this one didn’t work but more meds to control the heartbeat and we will try again later 🤞.
My wife had an unplanned cardioversion this afternoon.

While on our daily walk this morning, my wife started feeling pressure in her chest. No pain or shortness of breath. Just some pressure & Increased heart rate. We turned around, and when we got home her BP & pulse were both through the roof. She's never had any BP or heart problems before. She ended up getting an ambulance ride & spent the afternoon the ER, where they did some tests, ekg, and gave her some IV meds, trying to get the a-fib stopped & her heart rate & BP down. They ended up doing a cardioversion. She came out of it fine & we had her home here before 5 PM. Almost back to normal.

So far, so good, but I'll be keeping a close eye on her & she has followup appointments with our family doc & a cardiologist. Fingers crossed.

I’m happy that they got it under control! Funny thing about me is I had no symptoms even though my heart rate was spiking at 170-180 BPM. They got me on medication to lower my heart rate and blood thinners to prevent a stroke.

Did it leave a burn on her chest? I have had a couple in the last year. Both times it left a burn the shape of the adhesive patch.
