"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I've had a full beard pretty much always from the time I turned 20. I had to cut it off down to a mustache for about 8 years when I was a bench chemist because I had to be able to seal a respirator. My wife was the one who suggested I grow my beard back when I changed to a desk job.

But my wife has never seen my upper lip. I credit that for 40+ years of marriage. I think she's curious and won't let go of me until she she's that last part of me. ;)
I started my beard from before I had kids!! The oldest is 53 years!! None of the 3 has ever seen my chin!!! Nor has my wife of 48 years!!IMG_3583.JPG

I grew my last beard about 8 years ago for hunting season. It was so itchy I swore never, ever again!

When I got out of the Marines in 1970, I swore that nobody was ever going to tell me to shave or get a haircut again. I've had a moustache ever since then, but every time my beard got couple days old, or my hair started growing over my ears it bugged the heck out of me & I shaved, or got a haircut.

Many years ago, a couple I knew were planning their wedding. A few months before the day, the future groom shaved off his beard & mustache. His bride-to-be had demanded to see his full face before she'd marry him. She took a good look and said, "OK. Grow it back now." They've been happily married for around 40 years now. 😄

Did the future groom require the bride-to-be to shave her head so he could examine the shape of her skull, and maybe even get a phrenologist's opinion of what was revealed?

I'd never heard of an alum block before; what is its function? Does it soothe any "razor burn"?
When I was a kid, my Mom had me put a little chip of alum against canker sores I'd frequently get inside my lips.

That's it. It soothes razor burn, disinfects light cuts and cleanses the skin. Using alum chips for canker sores makes sense but i had never heard about it before.

Dan.

Where do you find a board certified phrenologist these days?
Why The Porchenberg Institute of Phrenological Research of course.
Right next door to Mystic Meakos Crystal Ocean Touchy Feely Palmistry and Tarot Spirtual Healing Studio...
I was confident meako meako would be able to answer this question!🤓
Thank you, sir!

🤣 No head shaving. If any other personal inspections occurred, I was not informed. ;)
Thanks for the info; what's good for the gander is not necessarily good for the goose, I guess.
Regarding other inspections, I think you were probably on the right side of the TMI line. 🤓
