"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Sorry to hear of your loss Andi. Glad to see you gave him a good send-off. I hope things get back to normal for you soon.

Andi, I took my father about two hours up the road to the PA coal hills to my great uncle's viewing. I might have seen my great uncle last when I was about a third of my height, and a quarter of my size. I always liked my great aunt, my grandmothers sister (she had many of them, and I take seeing each one as a treat). It was good to see her, my other great aunts, aunts and uncles and cousins I haven't seen in years. I got to see my Uncle Snuffy, and gave him a big hug, on the way out of the funeral home, my father and I had to get down the road. Got to see my aunt and uncle from New Jersey, who I haven't seen in so long. Many cousins and aunts and uncles that I "re-met" for maybe the fifth time this go round.

The old coal town that my grandmother grew up in is literally falling down to the ground. Time goes on, and I don't know who will be left there. My father's cousin told him that she might not see him again. She looked to be about 10 or so years older than my father, who turns 60 next week. We used to joke that we only see each other at funerals and weddings. Seems like we only see each other at funerals these days, if at all. Spend time with your family, so you can make some new memories.

Dan, if you want some real old fashioned fried chicken, we need to meet up and let me introduce you to the Red Rooster in Damascus Md. It's a tiny little hole in the wall place on a dead end just off the main drag of RT 27. But it's real country fried chicken the old way. Couple ladies dipping the chicken in egg and batter and frying it up. IN fact, I'll go as far to say, the Red Rooster is to fried chicken what the Lisbon Grill is to BBQ.

Carl.

I'm intrigued! If they can make fried chicken as good as that Texas brisket, I'll be in Heaven. I stopped off for a pit beef sandwich on Saturday. The "operation" was in a trailer, and when I heard a microwave "ding", I knew it was gonna be bad (they didn't look "shady" at all). I was hungry and tried it anyway. Not bad, just not good. Well, just have to remember that was blech in the future. It was early, maybe too early to get fresh "cut/shaved" pit beef.

Last night my wife´s grandpa died in the age of 81 years old.

Saturday afternoon we´ll have a long hard walk to the graveyard... :(

This is the news I was afraid to see. I'm so sorry about your wife's loss. I will be praying for you all during the time of mourning.

I originally came here today to let everyone know how much my wife and I appreciate all the thoughts, prayers and smoke sent on our behalf. Then I saw Andi's latest post on his wife's grandfather - terrible shame and my heart aches for them all.

To update those of you that supported us and lifted us in prayer the last 2 or 3 weeks, especially those of you I did not update through PMs, if I didn't get back to you; my wife's CT scan, ultrasound, and bone marrow biopsy were all negative. She still has an abnormal condition with her blood levels, but at least cancer has been ruled out for now.

Again, bless you all for standing with us as well as the others here that have been having difficulties.

We've had rain, sunshine, wind the last week; pretty typical for this time of year in north Louisiana. We've seen the first hummingbirds, and the first purple martins. The finches are eating a bag of thistle seed a week. It's springtime in full swing here now.

Kris, looks a little early for your hummers.

I hope you can enjoy the time remaining with your relatives and all of them in good health for a long time. This all seems to forge together in family cases. I´ve never been so close to my wife´s family like in the past few days.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your condolences, Ed. Much appreciated!

This is no bad news - in opposite - very good news to know that your wife doesn´t have cancer. Great news, my friend!!!

Thanks to all the great guys & gals here for their kind and helpful support - accross half of the globe. You don´t know how much this means to me.

Andi, words fail to convey at times like this what we wish to let someone know. I wish I could just sit down beside you and put a hand on your shoulder at a time like this. Thoughts are with you, friend.

Well that certainly is something and no doubt a big relief. I have every faith that they'll figure it out and get her back to normal.

That's great news Ed. I hope things continue to get brighter for your family. Thoughts and prayers continued to be sent.

Have a great day,
Jeff

Good to hear. Now lets see if we can't bless those doctors into some revelation as to the actual source of the problem.

Our very own Mad Hungarian, T.Erdelyi, stated this. Very true, no, it was not directed to me :D.

As a representative for your hobby your expected to act responsibly in public, your actions are interpreted by the general public as the norm for other people like us and as such can be the difference between your act being socially accepted or considered to be a threat.

As I have communicated to you privately, I am thrilled by the good report. But I wanted to publicly join the celebration since we are one big family.

Likewise I want to thank everyone for the prayers/smoke and good vibes...specialist we saw in wichita was on the ball, really knew her stuff and totally confused us several times lol but treatment of my wifes condition is going great and hopefully within 3 or so months we'll see results. The medication though even with my insurance cost us $1100 this month alone which has led me to believe I should have become a chemist! Up side is we'll meet the deductible on my policy in $900 for that aspect of her treatment.

Really wish I could get on here more to shoot the breeze and keep up with everyone's happenings!

Robert, glad to hear you found a good doctor. thoughts and prayers continued to be sent to you and your family.

Have a great day,
Jeff

Please wish me luck today. I have been out of work for a while now and things are pretty tight and are only going to get tighter if I don't find something in the near future. I have an interview today, for a good job, and I am starting to get nervous. I don't know how many people they are going to interview, this is the third stage of the hiring process, but I know that there were a lot of people apply to start with. This is the only good prospect I have at this time and I really hope it works out. Thanks for letting me ramble and for your thoughts.

Have a great day,
Jeff
