"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Carl I'm sure you'll enjoy residing in Texas a great deal, While I'm from Southern OK, the demographics are quite similar. People are clinging to their old ways with no intentions of changing, not in a bad way or anything, but with the things that matter in life IMHO. People in this part of the world are incredibly hospitable and generally accepting of transplants. You'll like Texas, it's a great place, but being the Okie I am I can't speak too highly of the place, LOL.

Woo Hooo! Just got my first hummingbird at my feeder, returned from its long voyage :D

Not so much here...frozen.. maybe a little over zealous :)

I put my feeder out a week ago, usually we have a few passers by early, but then a few males settle in about April 15th. It is pretty amazing how every year they come back within just a couple of days time. The males always show up a few weeks before the females, and leave likewise. Looks to be a bit cooler where you live ;)

We get a nice variety come through, Black-chinned, Broad-tailed, Calliope, and my favorite, the brightly colored Rufous. A HUGE Rufous flew into our tent last year on a backpacking trip in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness.

Hi,

Wow Carl, Maryland to Texas. That's a far piece to travel. But it sounds like the ticket for you. Texas should offer you all you need and want.

That's some little tyke you have there Humppa. They grow like weeds don't they. And they only get more fun as they grow. He's very fortunate to have such an Uncle as you.

I think I might have to follow Carl to some where warmer, we are expecting 8" to 12" of new snow again. Over tonight through Thursday. Already had freezing rain and sleet today. Minnesota, a place where winter never ends.:grumpy:

I always thought Minnesota had two seasons, winter and less $h!++ee winter.

We're supposed to get this mess in MD the end of the week, all day Friday. I'll miss this nice weather, my perfect kind of weather.

Hi,

Actually, we are supposed to have winter and road construction. I think we missed the construction part. I'm supposed to pick up a Springer pup at the airport in the cities. I keep calling the owner to tell not to ship the pup. I'm not sure I can get to the big evil Cities to get the little furball. we are shooting for Friday evening.

Good luck on getting furry people. My younger two labs didn't want to come in last night, but the thunder scared them inside. Playtime over! The lightning looked amazing last night.

This little burst of summer weather on the Atlantic seaboard has me thinking about summer food. Natural for a fat man I believe. I have a hankerin' for some fried chicken from this place in MD called the Prettyboy Market (always have to add it's in the Prettyboy Reservoir area).

Last night my wife´s grandpa died in the age of 81 years old.

Saturday afternoon we´ll have a long hard walk to the graveyard... :(

Very sorry to hear that Andi, my condolences to your wife and the rest of the family. I also have to attend a funeral this week I'm afraid :(

Sorry to hear about your wife's Grandpa's passing. My prayers and best wishes to you and your family, Andi.

Andi, sorry to hear that. My own grandfather passed away within the last year; we were very close, so it was hard, but near the end he was at peace, which was a comfort. Coincidentally, last night I awoke at about 3:30am from an incredibly vivid dream about him, with a few tears in my eyes.
I wish you and your wife the best. Smoke in the air for you, my friend.

Thanks again, dear fellows.

I returned some hours ago from church which was taken due to his death... and it were an incredible sad moments while the priest was speaking. I think (we) Catholics have a very special way to deal with this topic.

Tomorrow evening we´ll have another "Rosenkranz" (engl. Rosary) and on saturday there will be the funeral. This will be a hard weekend...

You guys are a real help and I can hardly thank you enough!
