"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I don't want to get too political, but that's probably the most illogical, emotionally based resolution I've seen, let's not take into consideration the reinforced cockpit door, potential flight marshals on high risk flights, as well as a frightening trend among terrorist to gravitate towards explosives, that's enough for me...... I'm not flying if I have my way, so all is well for me, but I feel for the traveling knife enthusiast. Hope it's postponed for a later date, and not snuffed out for good.

It'll happen, its just the past few months is the wrong climate to introduce it...when I need a knife bad and have to fly, I just find a local gun/hardware/knife shop and buy one at my destination. If I really like the knife, I ship it back in a flat rate.

I sure hope you're right, and I think you may be.

Personally, I just check a suitcase. I prefer not to have to lug bags around on my shoulder, when I can drop one off on the way in and pick it up again on the way out.

So I just spent the past two days in training to be a ScrumMaster. Does anyone else use this at work?

Sounds hard work Blaine ;)

Just read an article on the "new" Queen in Knife World, and saw a blurb about a Bob Dozier influenced Mountain Man.

Yes, I must have this one!

Hey! I am in need of someone who knows their traditional knives well and is a good writer to freshen and deepen the descriptions of the pocket knives on my website. If you are interested, shoot me a PT. Thanks! :)

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and
spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me,
can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I
don't know where I am."

The woman below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering
approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees
north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist. "I am," replied the woman,
"How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is, technically
correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact
is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything,
you've delayed my trip."

The woman below responded, "You must be in Management." "I am," replied
the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you're
going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air.
You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people
beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same
position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."

Thanks for that Sarah, I'm gonna have to remember this one :D

(Is there anyone from the management side here? :))

Being honest, I don´t know if this old tradition is known in the US or outside of Continental Europe. But before the so called "Ice Saints" came http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Saints traditionally plants aren´t placed in the garden or the field because there could be still frost during the nights. For this year - tomorrow the ice saints begin and will end on wednesday next week. In Germany we call them "Eisheilige" or "Eismänner".

But this year we might have luck and there will be no frost during nights.

I´m curious if you guys from other parts of the world know about these days?

Very interesting Andi, but wouldn't work here ha ha! The fact is, some years only JULY can be guaranteed frost-free at night Does vary a lot though as last October was mainly frost free but then.....
