"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Blasted postal strike so I couldn't get my parcel out yesterday or today. Should hopefully be on the way tomorrow, hopefully in time for the weekends festivities.

collectorknives.net can't ship to me, and thats a shame since they have a lot of knives I want.

Can someone help me by ordering for me and shipping it to me?

What's in it for you besides good karma? I don't know what would be fair. What would you consider a fair payment for such a service?

I just walked to my kitchen sink to rinse out a glass, and looking out the window, saw a red fox chase a squirrel up into our "songbird island." The very intelligent squirrel ran up the pole, then when the fox moved around to attain a better position, the squirrel ran back down the hill into the woods. The fox took one bound out of the box onto the hillside to give chase, then thought better of the effort and just sat down on the cool grass. At this point I retrieved my camera and took the following shots.

I moved out onto our deck, to try and get a better pic, but he spooked and ran back into the woods. There is a corner of the fencing
that is bent out by the raccoons to get at the seed, which the fox went through both into and out of the yard.

He took one look back at me before heading into the foliage.

Andi, earlier this spring before all the foliage sprouted and we couldn't see into the woods, we saw a pair of adult red fox with 3 youngsters about half their size running along the creek, about 25 feet across the fence. We also have raccoons, opossums, ground hogs, nutria and deer back there, and plenty of bird life. I believe this fox was the daddy.

Hey gang!

I haven't posted here in the lounge too often, but I'm hoping to ask a little favor. My wife and I just found out that we are expecting our first child! Katie is still very early on, about 6 weeks. We're both very very excited, but also pretty darned nervous. If I could ask, if you have a moment, could you all keep Katie and the baby in your prayers? It would mean so much to me, I'd really appreciate it.

Katie (as well as my parents) are all hoping for a boy, but I must say I'm really not concerned one way or another, as long as it's healthy and happy.

I don't think we'll be able to attend the GEC Rendezvous as planned, since it's time to start saving back extra cash for the doctor bills, but that's alright. There's always next year! And now we'll have a junior knife enthusiast to bring along! :D

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers, I really appreciate it!

That's great news, Dan! Congrats to both you and Katie.

Neat pictures, Jeff! Foxes are always interesting to watch. Unfortunately it's pretty rare to see one here in the city anywhere. I also didn't realize we had any nutria here in Missouri. I always thought they lived further south.

I saw my first fox (not on TV) a few years ago. From the first glimpse, it was so clear that I was looking at something "other" than I was used to. Such beautiful coloring. Thanks for the pictures! I hope he comes back. :)

My wife and I just found out that we are expecting our first child!

Congratulations! I'm happy for you both. There's really nothing else like it. :)

Way down the list (No Comparison!), but I am sorry it means this:
I don't think we'll be able to attend the GEC Rendezvous as planned....

I was looking forward to meeting you guys.

~ P.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone!

P, we were looking forward to meeting you too! I'm not 100% certain yet that we can't make it, but I'm kind of leaning that way right now. It will largely depend on our finances at the time. I can probably swing the gas money, I just won't be able to knife shop if we go. That's alright, maybe Katie can get me a nice Conductor for my first father's day next year... ;)

It really hasn't sunk in yet completely for me. It's definitely going to be a HUGE change in our lives, but we've been married for 6 years this coming Thursday, and I think we're ready for it!
