"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

My heart goes out to you. I can't imagine. I hope you find peace in all the good memories.

It was very sad news to hear of your loss AKC. Deepest condolenses.

Jack

Alan, thanks to Sarah I had heard. My deepest condolences and sympathy on the loss of your beloved.

AKC,
I don't think there's really anything I can do to make you feel any better, except prayers. And those are coming your way.

Dan,
congratulations for the upcoming new member of the family!

Kris,
one thing I have learned, is that sometimes even objects we're (emotionally) attached to need to go, and leave space to newcomers. Since your love for Damascus is not a mystery , I'm more than sure that you will soon be very attached to your new caplifter (which, by the way, I was looking at, a couple weeks ago), and the fact it's a gift from your wife (who's evidently involved in your knife passion, to some extent) will make it special right away.

I'm away on holidays, so I don't know how much I will be on BF for the upcoming two weeks (so you can take a break :D) yet I will be in southern FL (no definite schedule yet) from next week for about one week or so, so anyone who's in the area, shoot me a PM and we'll go find some BBQ place somewhere... :p
Oh, and while in the US, I will also put my hands on my first US custom traditional slipjoint (pictures to come soon - as soon as I get it).

Fausto

Just in case there is any doubt I suppose it is worth reiterating, a Mercedes ML500 SUV which rear ends an Isuzu Trooper is going to suffer a walloping load more damage than the Trooper. As the driver of the aforementioned Trooper, I can attest to that. Happened yesterday.

Ouch! Hope no one got hurt Frank.

We be fine. I think there's a dent in the back door. The MB was less fortunate. Driving in a Trooper is a bit like driving in a Sherman tank.

AKC, you have our deepest condolences.

Everyone, thank you so much for all of the congratulations and well wishes, they mean so much to both of us!

I've been thinking a lot today about my great (x5) grandfather, Jonathan Parks today. At the age of 22 he answered the call and took up arms against the British, fighting in the Battle of Bunker Hill at the onset of the Revolutionary War. After surviving the battle, he voluntarily enlisted in the Continental Army and*continued to fight for our nation's freedom. I'm so very, very proud of him and all our servicemen who have made so many sacrifices for our country and way of life these long years since. God bless America.

Why is that some things totally cripple us guys? Or perhaps it's just me.

I went into the town today (there's only one on the island) to do the big-shop. I had been given a list by the other half who usually takes charge of things like this, but seeing as she was working and I am on rest days, I had agreed to do it ALONE. So I followed instructions and the list and have no idea why, at the end of it all, the bill came to over a third more than we usually spend.

Is it a guy thing? Or is it a me thing?

I even remembered the clubcard!

Glad to hear you're OK Frank

Paul, it's you! :D

That and the current rate of inflation!

Frank - Phew! Glad it's just the ride that got a little bent up, not you and yours.

pmew - At least you'll not be sent again! ;)

Just at the 'osses as part of a work trip!

You'll have to trust me when I say or got the cowboy boots on to match (it won me a bet and a pint from the boss :))

First timer and I won on the first. Nice!
Also celebrating my good results from hospital and the fact that I DON'T have cirrhosis or autoimmune hepatitis.

Ready for a bite to eat now though and some shade wouldn't go a miss!

I was thinking the same thing. :D

My, you do look the part!

Also celebrating my good results from hospital and the fact that I DON'T have cirrhosis or autoimmune hepatitis.

Excellent news! So, you're just cranky?

Ready for a bite to eat now though and some shade wouldn't go a miss!

And a pint? Or is that still a non-starter? If the latter, I highly recommend continuing to console yourself with knives bought with your (former) brew funds. :)

I know! Cheer up a bit mate! I know you're missing me, but you look like Boss Hog after the good old boys had him over yet again! :D

Well, a slimmer version to be fair! :D

The French have a saying about first-time gamblers, that innocents have winning hands

Hope to catch up with you soon pal :)
