"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

What is this "ice" material of which you speak?
It's those clear shapes making the clinking sound in your cocktail.

Sadly some of us occasionally see it all over every surface outside in the cooler months. Me, I prefer it stay in my drinking glass.

Sarah's got a new handle. "Flash Pertinux".

Be advised: never hire an electrician who's nickname is "Flash".

Alert bystanders were thankful...

... that I'd already completed the cheesecake the night before (using the same mixer).

I thought my mom's cheesecakes were heavy, but she never blew out a mixer on hers. ;)

Ummm...I love the blue tape though :D
any circuit breakers blown? That right there is the random 'lectricity that skeeers me ;)

blue tape.

Golly Gee Whiz Flash, ya might have at least patched it with electrical tape instead of masking tape.

I'm gonna agree with ya on the infusion stuff. There seems to be a popular trend these dayts of making some awful stuff from herbs and whatever some guru deemed 'healthy' to drink. I'm sorry, but that's NOT tea. Tea is a particular plant that they loaded on fast clipper ships and hauled back from the China trade. Tea is what we yanks dumped in the harbor up in Boston when we turned into a coffee drinking bunch of rebels. Tea is what is served in a civilized country at break time. The stuff made from berries and lemon grass and other weird 'stuff' is not now, or anytime to be considered TEA.

Some people are confused over the huge difference between tea and some infusion. Yeah, it gets me too sturzi!

Carl, lover of plain black tea.

That's right. Tea is from a specific plant. Tisane is the proper term for all the "herb" teas and such.

Glad to see you're still kickin, Carl! Yeah, this old wolf snuck back in the door while y'all were looking out the front.

Moved down on the border in August 2012 when the wife got a job teaching 4th grade. In April 2012 I started riding motorcycles again after 34 years away. I bought a 2012 Honda Shadow Aero. Not long after I sold my cage and the bike is my transportation, but we still have the wife's 97 Cherokee though I don't spend much time in it. She even climbed on the back with me this past August on our anniversary and has been on several rides with me since.

Don't know if I'll be around the forum much as it makes me want to do things like spend money on knives I don't need. LOL. But did want to say howdy and see who is still around.

Speaking of tea I even have a jar of loose Pakistani tea. Okay, I also have a few tisanes around too, but I still have good old black tea as well.

Oh, and I ended up buying a Case smooth chestnut bone canoe of ebay tonight that I thought would be a good companion to the smooth chestnut mini-trapper that lives in my pocket. I made the mistake of actually reading and posting in the knife sub-forum over on the 1911forum. Like a recovering junkie walking into a crack house on a stressful day.

I was wondering when I'd get called on that.

Many moons ago, at the time of The Tape, it wasn't about potential electrical mayhem (though it should have been!), but just "temporarily" stiffening the joint there were the adapter plugs in. Which of course was a misapplication then, too, especially when "temporary" became totally forgetting there was a burgeoning problem to tend to.

The moral of the story?

Don't Cook.

My mother in-law, a German, newly arrived in the USA after marrying my father in-law, an Army NCO, was visiting her in-laws in the country of Tennessee. She hardly spoke a word of English. Came running into her in-law's house pointing and muttering German. She had caught a field on fire which in turn caught their barn on fire while she was out sneaking a cigarette. Thankfully they saved the horses. Why she felt the need to sneak a cigarette I don't know, and she doesn't even remember, as many of her in-laws smoked back in those days. All these decades later she still carries a heavy accent, and the first time she told the story of the fire in her heavy and excited German accent, she had me out of breath I was laughing so hard. Every once in awhile I refer to her as "Sparky". When my father in-law was alive he'd just grin and chuckle when I did it though he apparently never muttered a single word about that fire. I'm pretty sure it cost him dearly when they had little money.

Sparky, God love her, will be 75 years alive in 9 days, and we are extremely close friends. So close I've been trying to talk her into moving in with us.

the funny thing is, it's been about 8 months since I've been cut.... I hope this doesnt start it up again XD I'm certainly a clumsy one XD

[place conversation inducing question here]

Scott

p.s. If anyone even remembers me, which is doubtful, I'm back after however long I've been away from Bladeforums :D

Just a love bite. Maybe you haven't been crooning over her enough lately.

Yeah, I manage to nick or flat out slice myself now and then. It goes traditionally with traditional knives as does the tradition of having shaved spot on your arms that tell folks you've been doing some knife sharpening lately. :D

Oh yes, today was the first day I've actually payed much attention to her in a while. she mostly just rides in my pocket, and occasionally cuts a few things. finally decided she needed some sharpening, I forgot how sharp i get my knives! needless to say my left arm has a rather large bald spot, and after accidentally hitting the edge of the counter with the blade.... I also have a small, yet deep gash in my finger.... Welp.... I'll remember next time XD

Scott

One time in 8 months isn't bad at all. Heck, I cut myself three times in five minutes on the SAME FINGER when I first got my GEC 23 Pioneer Jack.
