"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Seal it in a bag with a cup full if uncooked rice for a few day and see if it dries out.

I dried it out on the radiator enough to get all the info that wasn't on the SIM off, but it's not functioning properly. It was getting close to the end of its life anyway. Just not the best time and circumstances for it to happen. I guess it could have been worse though.

Sorry, double-tap, my computer has been behaving like it's been through a wash-cycle too!

Sure you did! :p:D
We All know what really happens to phones that got dunked ;) :D

LOL! I'm amazed I've never done that or dropped it in a pint! Left it in my dressing-gown pocket :( On the previous occassion (about 10 years ago) I fell in Sheffield canal! Only went in to just over my knees, but I was wearing combats and the phone was in the leg pocket!

I haven't seen the sun in a week because it's constantly foggy, and next week won't be any better. So I grabbed my bicycle and made a run for it: The only escape, going upwards... (Today it actually wasn't that bad.)

At the top there's a beautiful view of the alps. Unfortunately it was overcast, but when the sun is lower it should be visible for a while at least.
Rigi and Pilatus, with Lucerne in between, lake Zürich in the foreground.

Just at the right end are some of the most famous Swiss mountains, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

To the east the Säntis, a couple hundred kilometers farther is Andi, sitting in the fog as well :).

The fog I was escaping from, Zürich in the back.

Wrapping some dough around a stick (the rest was used for my Sunday breakfast).

It's getting dark, time to go down again.
Bachtel_13_small_zps06da1428.jpg

I didn't go down the same way as up, so I had to wander around a bit until I found my bike again :)
Don't let the camera fool you, now it's dark and I'm finally heading home.

I hope everyone else's Sunday was enjoyable as well.

Great scenery, Sturzi :)

I really like your pics of the Alps. I haven´t been there; the Alps in the area of Salzburg are what I know better - and Bad Reichenhall/Berchtesgaden of course ;)

But you were right, we were sitting in the fog today.

Managed to put my phone in the washing-machine this morning! :(

Been there. Done that. Fortunately I remembered it while the washer was filling. Phone got wet, but I carry one of those Mil spec certified phones and all I needed to do was rinse the soapy water off with fresh water.

My Sunday was made more enjoyable by those lovely photos.
Thank you.

Sturzi, Thank You for those spectacular winter views! Stunning scenery
Now this dough wrapped on a stick...that looks like it would be a very tasty treat cooked on an open fire.

Steamy and yummy :D.

I have never seen this before, but suddenly I want to prep some sweet dough with raisins and nuts and make a small fire and try this for myself. Is this your own invention, or does it have a name?

Not pig in the blanket - it's bun on a stick......:D:thumbup:

Best catfish I ever ate was cooked on a stick - not gutted or cleaned - just roasted over a fire - very tasty.

I'm surprised I've never done it before Frank! By the time I drained the water and managed to open the door, I reckon it had been there for 20 minutes. Sounds like you have a good phone. I had one years ago made by Nokia that was very tough and waterproof, but I don't think they made that model for long - probably reduced the number of new phones sold! :D

Wow, sound like you gents had eventful weekends! Sturzi, I really enjoyed your photos, thank you for bringing us along on your outing. The photos of your "snakebread" bring back memories; my grandmother used to do that for me when I was very small. Have to try it for myself some time soon! :)

We had a nice weekend, too. There's a group in the neighborhood who makes an annual Krampuslauf, and my wife's fire-dancing troupe puts on a show afterward in a local park. This year, it was 29F and snowing heavily, which made it feel quite festive, but complicated things for me a bit (I'm in charge of logistics and safety for the group, so in addition to keeping fire watch, I also was keeping snow-shovel watch!). Couldn't grab any photos due to the weather, but there were certainly sights to behold! :D

Edit: Looks like someone from the local news channel took a few pictures! http://phl17.com/2013/12/15/photos-2013-krampuslauf-philadelphia/
Here are a couple shots of my lovely wife, during the performance. :D

Wow! That's just outstanding. Congrats to all your crew.

I've generally heard of the twisted bread on a stick referred to as Bannock bread, though it's apparently also done off the schteek.

Has a video on it lower down.

Beautiful photos and story. Thanks for sharing. Though the first time I was reading it and you named off the mountains one of them was Andi. I almost took a picture of my old dog named Andi snoozing away behind me to post with a "No it's not. Andi is right here snoozing away." ;)

Hey Jack, kidding aside it's a bummer about the phone...I absolutely hate learning a new phone once I am familiar with one...

Alex, very cool stuff, fire dancer eh! Careful to not get on her bad side  Loved the link, looks like it's a pretty fun event
