"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

It´s sad hearing that Dave has passed. :( My condolences to his family and friends.

I knew him through the BF as a great guy and a helpful person.

^^ Duane, this is something I didn't know about? You have piqued my interest massively!!
Duane, could you tell us more about this cannon you mentioned? Got any pics? I, too, am intrigued!!

OK guy's, here ya go! It's just a lil' feller really...
.50 cal for a .490 patched round ball. I just load it up with a cotton ball and some crumpled newspaper over the charge though. It makes a pretty big boom, but I long for a larger bore cannon some day ;)

Pmew, good on ya for the charity work. Looks like fun had by several. Like the others I love the top shot. A little HDR work in there to better capture the feeling of it, but not overdone. Kudos to the photographer.

Sometime in the last century, probably a good 30 years ago, I made a New Year's resolution to never make another New Year's resolution. So far I have never faltered in keeping that resolution.

I do wish you all a good Gregorian calendar New Year. My new year starts around the end of October/1st of November. We prefer Celtic New Year. Though to be fair I didn't do much for it this year either.

I would have been asleep at midnight this past 31st, but the darned dog wanted to go out at 1152 by the stove clock. I was getting back into bed when I heard the fireworks going off all around and I looked at the clock on my phone which read 00:00 and mumbled to the wife who was asleep until I came back to bed, "Oh yeah, it's midnight. Happy New Year." Wife, dog, and myself promptly went back to sleep.

I talked to Dave about my Buck Collection and getting my 110's & 112's Engraved and he said to do it as it would never hurt the Knife.! So I did and have donated over 8 here on the Forum and a few others Sites and to just plain friends.*
Heck of a man and always had time to help out no matter what the question.!
Will be sitting and cutting and talking to him again not to far down the road !
Smoke & Prayers & Tears sent his way {seems like a lot of the good-uns are going to a better place.*} God Bless.^^

The dog pictures are great, everyone. Thanks!

How I love this picture.

The Mrs. and the knuckleheads on our New Years Day hike. Happy New Year all!

Somehow, I'd imagined just one airedale.... ;)

Duane, too funny! :D

Meanwhile I keep coming back to this:

All I can think is, when it comes to the Bri'ish comedies I've seen, it's all true.

-- The holidays were decent (and in some ways quite nice) for me and mine, but right after Christmas I was felled by a flu from which I continue to recover. I am grateful that my brain has finally stopped dissolving my eyeballs.

ed. to add:

Today, I de-owled the tree....

Condolences and prayers to Dave's family. Didn't know him, but a guy who like's knives, photography, trout fishing, and had a turtle sanctuary in his backyard, had to be one heck of a guy and a genuine loss.

Peaceful journey.

RIP and godspeed, Dave. You'll be missed here.

Hi folks,
just a short message as I pass by (I haven't been on BF much lately).
I'm sorry for Dave; I didn't know him, but he was one of us anyway.
I'm still laughing about Paul's picture. :D
I'm away from home for my winter holidays, so I won't post much this month, yet I'm trying to take some pictures for you, and I'm also collecting thoughts to share.
As for knives, right now, I'm travelling with just a SAK Classic and a Case SBJ.
Take care and and have a nice 2014 ;)
