Elliott! D'jou gets a puppy? Congrats!

Happy New Year to all! I for one am happy to kiss 2013 goodbye....

Yeah, we sure did, bud. She's been with us for two months now.

I know this has been a particularly hard year for you and I wish you the wind at your back in the coming year(s). All the best to you.

I wasn't planning on setting off my cannon tonight, but the neighbors hollered over and said " hey Duane, aren't you going to make some noise!" So I set off four volleys of boom and smoke!
Happy 2014 everyone!

^^ Duane, this is something I didn't know about? You have piqued my interest massively!!

Happy new year to you all friends.
Best wishes from Blighty.

A Happy New Year to all of you and your families. I hope you have a healthy and prosperous 2014.
Here's a pic of my grand dog Molly. She's a frequent visitor.

Thirty years ago today, three weeks to the day after our first date, I asked my best friend to marry me. We married eight and a half months later. For twenty of those years, she lived the privation and adventure only another soldier's wife can understand. Through all that, though tempted, she has yet to throw me out. I'm truly a blessed man.

Happy New Years, all. With all the fireworks going off, my golden retriever, Molly, decided to do her ostrich impression.

^^^^^ Keith, I had a black lab (Jake...rest his doggie soul), that would do the same thing every year. He was a real tough dude till the fireworks would start up.

There's always the day after.

My old man was always smarter than me. I should have listened to him a bit more carefully, as I actually may have learned something once in a while. Like drinking. Dad always said, whatever you start the evening off with, stay with it. Never, but never, mix the drinks. Wise words to live by. Today, it's been a low gear kind of day, with the headache that's in the temples like a mild throbbing that seems to keep beat with my heart. I started off the evening with the eggnog liberally laced with bourbon. Yeah, good old Even Williams black label. I could have kept on with some nice bourbon on the rocks, or a bourbon and soda, or bourbon and coke. But the warm apple cider laced with the Captain Morgans spice rum that Karen made for the family seemed too good to pass up. Okay, I do admit I had a couple. Swedish son-in-law JohnC made some very nice Vodka anfd tonics that were very nice too. Of course he swears by a certain brand of Swedish Vodka, I suose it's a heritage thing.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great New Year's eve party with the family. Even if it's a bit hazy by the time the ball came down. It's just the day after is a little bit of a pain.

I really should heed my father's advice.

Carl.

Someone recently mentioned to me (my apologies, I cannot remember who it was or in which thread they mentioned it) that they would like to see more pictures of my part of the world.

Well today, it did not rain in the Isle of Lewis and as it was New Year's Day we, the men of the village, known as the 'Grim Gits' performed another stunt to raise some money for charity. The son of a good friend of mine suffers from Crones disease which destroys his life. For those who are unaware of it, his bowels and intestines constantly blister and rupture so he can only eat these horrible medicated milkshake things. Imagine that for your Christmas dinner!

This coming summer David will turn 16 and will no longer be supported by a Charity which has done wonderful things for him; The National Society For Crones And Colitis, and so as a thank you to them, he asked for us to raise for them this year.

Some of you may recall us fellas rolling into the sea last year on a specially constructed raft... this year, it was a little more tame. For some reason in the UK 'onesies' have become fashionable. Sort of adult babygrow type all-in-one outfit things. Horrible. Well we fellas begged, borrowed or stole (mine is my fiancé's) and piled into a trailer pulled by David on his Quad and toured from one end of the village to the other beeping the horn, shaking a money box and banging on our neighbours doors. Much drinking was done afterwards.

It is a small village of about 30 houses and despite many people being away for the Holiday period, the people of Grimshader gave very generously and we finished the day with £391.51. A great day was had by all. Bonus points to anyone who can recognise me!

Happy New Year to you also, Paul. Looks like a fun time for a good cause.

As far as the attire goes.........................at least your hat looks warm.:D

Spent today putting away a bunch of Christmas crap decorations. Still have the tree up since it's not yet dried up, but the rest of the clutter festive decor has been put away till next year.

Someone recently mentioned to me (my apologies, I cannot remember who it was or in which thread they mentioned it) that they would like to see more pictures of my part of the world.

Paul, it was I who asked for pics of your area. It looks gorgeous and...quiet. Blessedly quiet.

Paul, Kudos to all those brave souls who raised the money.

And that top shot is a keeper. Really lovely.

Ok, the experts say that the trick to new years resolutions is to announce them to friends and family. Your more likely to hold to them if people are around to hold you accountable. So since ya'll are my online family, i am going to announce it here to you all, publicly and with humility.

My new boss has suddenly gotten onto me for what he says ...the way i talk to my employees. I need to work on being more polite/professional
this is in combination with my wife saying i need to work on my patience and how i talk to other people. Something is telling me that these things are intertwined and so my resolution is to try not to lose my cool, take a breath before opening my mouth and think about what i say to people. I resolve to stop worrying about things that 1) dont affect me or 2) are beyond my ability to control.

You could lump that in with being a better boss/person/husband i suppose
I am also embarking on a 5 month resolution to carry just one particular pocket knife, to make it mine and hopefully that will curb my materialistic/collecting side and hopefully make me more appreciative of what i have rather than being jealous of what everyone else has.

this is shaping up to being a big year in my life i think
wish me luck!
