"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Lol, thank you everyone! There's a picture I have at home of me when I was a newborn. My dad had a viking helmet with foam horns on it (for some odd reason), and popped it on my head for the photo. I found that one at a target store about three months before Julia was born and just had to buy it! :)

Dan - Congratulations to you sir! That is a cool lil hat. Hope she is coming on strong and mum is being well looked after.

Pmew - mwahahahahaha!
That is all :)

Many congratulations Dan :)

Hope your head's not too sore today Paul

Taken just before the final match... A despondent Scot, a very anxious Irish woman, a Welshman trying to be magnanimous and a smug Englishman. For those who aren't aware.. England beat Italy heavily, then Wales beat Scotland heavily, in the final game Ireland had to beat an unpredictable French side to prevent England winning the tournament. My wife (the Ulster red-head next to me) used some truly astonishing language before Ireland won. Celebrations all around. This morning I am in pain.

Dan, congratulations! Just beautiful! I trust mum is keeping well?

I almost never miss a sun rise. This morning I was treated to the moon setting in the west just before the sun rose in the east (which it is doing as I post this).

Hello everyone! I haven't been around in a while. Heck, most of you probably don't remember me that much.

Ah, but of course I do:

Big grin, still.

I've noticed you hadn't been around as much, and am so glad to hear that all is well.

I've had a whole heck of a lot going on, namely the birth of our first child!

What a beauty! Congratulations to all of you. :)

Julia just missed Jack Black's Viking contest, and-- while Charlie's entry was unparalleled-- Julia's picture may have pipped the field! [Perhaps guard her tender eyes before proceeding:]

Bargargalowwwwww!!!!!!!!

I haven't been actively collecting any slipjoints for a while, but I did just email Sonneman to pick up one of those fancy Radio Jacks.

Good choice. :-)

Just a follow up to the pitbull situation from a few weeks ago. So I feel Sooo bad for this dog, the family does not spend ANY time with her or attention on her. I thinking she gets fed once a day and thats about all the interaction she gets.

So my wife and I make a point to talk to her, one because she looks soo lonely and two so maybe she gets used to us and stops barking every time we go outside.

So i am out there (in my drive way mind you) about 6 feet from her just talking to her, good girl, how are you doing etc etc and the boyfriend pops his head out the door and says "Hey! Be quiet" and he notices me and says "Hey, stop messing with my dog!"

Now I didnt even realize he was home, his vehicle was not in the drive way and the mothers was, so i was a little surprised, but i said "I am not messing with her, I am just talking to her, hoping she will get used to me so she will stop barking every time i go outside"

He tells me, "I dont mess with your dogs, dont mess with mine, ok?"
I said... I am standing in MY driveway
To which he responds, "fine, stand in your driveway, just dont mess with my dog, ok? Thanks"

At which point i said, ok *shrugs* and walk back in the house.

what is truly sad, the house next door is a duplex, and the owner of the property was there, outside while all this went down. I dont know if he was purposely ignoring us or just not paying any attention...but geez, this is stupid.

anyways, rant over

This bloke sounds like he doesn't have a scoobie about dogs. Poor wee thing must be bored senseless and so lonely, it probably looks forward to your visits too.

As an owner of two collies who is lucky enough to have open moorland behind my house and croft, I balk at the notion of a dog shut up day and night with no interaction or work to be doing. A pack animal with no pack, it's basically torture.

I feel sorry for you pal, that's a horrible situation to be in.

Paul

the problem with the situation is multiple

1) i have 3 dogs in a 1000 sq ft apartment, which i dont need to draw any attention to my situation...you know just in case. fyi 2 are rescues, totally unplanned but i cant just get rid of them now...
2) i honestly think this guy is the type to retaliate against my dogs, if we called animal services i would not be surprised to see poisoned meat thrown into my yard. i cant prove it, just a hunch, but i just am not going to risk it

i could be be "borrowing trouble" as my wife puts it, but its just not worth it....
i do believe that after 10 years (as of august) in this place, its time to seriously ponder moving...we discussing that option now the wife and I
and getting OUT of the city would probably be a very good thing for us i think

I was always a city guy, Glasgow, Hull, Cardiff, Belfast... but after moving to the Outer Hebrides two years ago, I don't think I'll ever go back to a city. :)

I went up onto the moor behind the house today, searching for old croft boundaries (I think there might be a dispute brewing in the village). The dogs came too of course. I thought some of you might be interested to see what most of Lewis looks like inland.

This view is looking south towards the village and you can make out my nearest neighbours house on the right (mine is in the trees on the left but you can't see it). Rocks, reeds, heather and peat bog.

You have to be careful where you walk this time of year, it's been so wet that most of the ground is like this. I have gone up to my waist before in small deceptive puddles...

Finlay and Jess help. Jess is pretty wise and will usually find a dry route, whereas Finlay tends to point out where not to tread, he loves swimming.

Little lochs like this are dotted all over the landscape, the smaller ones come and go with the seasons. This one is a permanent one that I go to from time to time at the northernmost boundary of the village common-grazing land.

Thanks,

Thanks for the great pics Paul, not hard to see why you love the place ;thumbup:

I think there might be a dispute brewing in the village

Hope you're not caught in the middle of a turf war mate! ;)
