"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Some people talk about fly-in-the-ointment..but nature has many sides. Usually poets wrote about Larks and Daffodils heralding spring, Orwell even wrote an essay about the Common Toad as the real hero of spring! Well, toads need these types when waking up so I argue that the return of flies are a sure sign of spring. This one overwintered and they can survive many degrees minus even indoors! Just wait till they start the family business.....:eek::D

^^ Great post Will.

I understand exactly what you mean. It's always a good thing when we start to see these wee critters taking to the skies.

Sorry for being late but I'm very sorry for your loss Dan and Alex and the very best wishes and strength...
Robert good luck.

If anyone has a spare pinch of tobacco they could burn to send some smoke my way, I'd surely appreciate it. I've been bed-ridden for four days now with a herniated disc in my lumbar spine. The pain comes and goes (mostly comes) and when it hits, it's complete agony. I'm able to hobbled about four meters from bed to bathroom on crutches, but that's it. Take my advice, guys: Stay active. Lose weight. Strengthen your core, and your body in general. I'm far from a couch potato, but It seems 10 years of sitting at a computer M-F and carrying around a few extra pounds caught up with me. :-(

Ouch! Mark, I'm sorry to hear that! I'll certainly take a dram for you and wish you slàinte mhath.

Get well soon.

Sorry to hear , Mark. Smoke sent. I hope you are up and about soon.

Mark, wishing you a speedy recovery amigo.

There is no doubt, this sedantry lifestyle is really no good for us :(

Thanks a lot, guys. Being laid up is the worst. All I want to do right now is take my kids and dog for a long hike in the woods.

Right after I looked at Willgoy's fly picture I spotted this little Texas fly munching on my apples. By the middle of May the big ones will be here. :D

I hope everything will be fine again, Mark! Smoke sent... :( Sorry to hear about that!

To keep you guys (& gals) updated ... this is Max, a little bigger and ... ;)

Good looking young lad, Andi, you must be a proud Pappa.

Thought I would share a 'sneak peek' of an upcoming commissioned piece from Bruce, just under 4 in. closed and will be halved in some primo stag.

Gosh Mark, sounds like no fun at all. Hoping you get sorted out soon.

Kris, looks great!!!

Congrats for your photograph skills, macro isn't for everyone :D
By the way, if someday you want to try a decently sized apple, you can travel to the Alps. Those look like cherries to me :D

Mark, best wishes for you.

Andi, Max is so nice (although in the picture he's evidently looking around in search for his knife).

Kris, I was never a fan of Damascus, but that sort of pattern looks very very pleasing to my eye :)
