"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I got to babysit a drunk for the barmaid. He was mad that the table his wife and friends were waiting on wasn't empty yet, I was at the bar nursing my 5.25 hard cider . We talked about BBQ joints. He was nice to the barmaid and I but would not shut up about the table. He told me a couple times he wasn't drunk.

Yeah no, you're three sheets to the wind pal.

Hi Peter!

The package arrived just yesterday :) :D

It seems that german customs is pretty slow right now. Maybe it´s due to vacation time ....

At least I hope so and on other periods of time it will get sooner & betterr.

Look what I found last week sitting beside my office: My NKCA-swayback is here - finally!
After more than seven long weeks :(

It would have been a real shame if this little beauty would have disappeared  It is a great knife with a nicely rounded handle and a grind that is, well, PERFECT! :D
Many thanks to Tony and Vince for making this possible. I am very happy...

Hi Peter!

Glad you finally got the package. That´s always a wonderful moment when the mailrings and says: "Here are some bucks to pay for customs, a small package from the US."

Really a great knife, Sir. I think it was worth the wait.

I want to be honest, I really dislike the uncalculateable period of shipping time every package can take.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it´s done! GERMANY just won the Soccer World Championship in Brazil!!!

What a battle against Argentinia - they fought great - but wow .... JUST AWESOME!!!

Congrats, Andi.

Sure was a beautiful goal!

Sarah, indeed it was a great goal of Mario Götze. Now he´s in a row with the great men like Sepp Breitner, Lothar Matthäus and all the others... :)

In my town now all the cars are driving and the signals are signing. This will be a big party night today here and tomorrow and on tuesday when they return back home. Without me, too old and I have to look after baby Max - which is my greatest joy in world.

Astonishing finish from the youngster, I have to say it, they have been the most consistent team throughout the tournament by far. A deserved win, but I'm gutted for the Argentines.

For me this has been the best World Cup of my lifetime (not just because Englandshire got put out early tee hee). The quality of football has been outstanding and the attitude, aside from a certain Uruguayan, has been so positive. Surprise results coming from every stage - I never expected to see a Brazilian team have such a complete meltdown in my lifetime, or Spanish side with the quality of players they have get thumped five nil!

A superb tournament and a great warm up for the REAL World Cup which happens next year.

Good win Andi, the first for a United Germany. Have a stein on me when you get the chance!

Paul

Andi,
congrats for your fourth World Cup. Surprising as it may sound, I put my bet on Germany months ago, and I always thought it was the most solid team of the event (which might or might not count in a sport like soccer, but that's another story... :p)
I'm not a huge football fan, not at all, but this year I've watched more games than in any other World Cup, and I agree with Paul, many nice games and alot of fun.
As for the "real world cup" (I assume you're talking about rugby), it will be fun as well, although I never really fell in love with rugby and much preferred other sports (both as a player and an observer). Yet, entering the Twickenham stadium was quite an emotion (although I went there for a concert, not for a rugby game :D)

Fausto

Oh, that was so close! After all the semi-finals before they made it all the way through this time.
Thanks for the compliments :)

Congratulations Andi

I'm embarrassed to say that I missed every single game :o But I did listen to some comment on the radio.

Well done Andi
and Well done Germany.
I didn't catch much of the World Cup but strangely managed to be there when Germany beat Brazil 7-1 and at the crucial Gotze goaaaaal.
I give my vote to the German keeper-he should get a new Audi,Some pudding and a date with Claudia Schiffer or similar maybe the newer version.:p

Thanks for the compliments, fellows :)

It was a good game - well worth an endgame in a world championship - at least imo. Peter is right, it was close. But this would need an own thread to discuss ;)

Fausto - I hope you made a big deal with the bet. I didn´t even thought they will come through quarter-finals... I was wrong and this pretty much.

Yeah meako - the german keeper is some kind of an animal - he saved the game so often. Especially during the game against Algeria. But kicking out Brazil was really a tough one, I mean that´s Brazil and not any other football nation. They are THE football nation. At least they have been. Manuel Neuer will get his AUDI and I suppose he would prefer the younger version of Claudia more than the "original" ;)

This about sums up the 2014 World Cup for me.

LOL !!! Thanks for that vid!

You are right, sometimes it´s actually like the vids you´ve shown :)

... I'm embarrassed to say that I missed every single game ...

Not at all, football isn't the game that was when I was a kid. I remember Klingsman appearing on the scene, a wonderful footballer but with an awful ability to dupe the referee. He turned the dive into an art which now blights the modern game, and is why I don't follow it in the religious manner I did as a youngster. I actually thought that this WC was mercifully free from successful swallow dives.

Brilliant ad which describes todays football, however as I said before, I actually thought that this WC escaped relatively unscathed from diving and acting in comparison with the last 16 years of football.

And, like I said, the real World Cup is next year. Where players will do everything they possibly can to stay on their feet and on the pitch.

I am a proud Scot, but I grew up in Wales. If you know rugby, you know what that means.

Rugby was certainly the game I always preferred to play Paul. Twenty years of following Sheffield Wednesday would 'cure' anyone of football! :D

Congrats Andi on the German World Cup win. The better team won. Singapore is quite football crazy and you could hear the screams in my apartment block when they scored!

Leghorn - that's a good ad. Really sums up where football is at right now.

Really?
