No worry about cholesterol there!

:D

I miss the way my mom used to do the chicken livers with onions and a gravy. I could never quite duplicate it, and I've tried many times.

My Nan used to make devilled kidneys - I never get it right either. I suspect that even if mine now were actually better, they still wouldn't taste right to me because the memory is so strong.

Aaah the liver.
My mum used to over cook the liver to the point of chalky dryness and gagging from young meako.
Throughout my teenage and young adult life I spurned liver with utter disgust.
Then ...
One day...
I was at a cafe in Randwick, Sydney.
The Winning Post Cafe-Randwick is one of Australias largest thoroughbred racecourses.
with a mate of mine James and he ordered the "lambs fry" and bacon.
In my ignorance I also ordered it (I'll have what he's having):)
It came with buttered slices of white bread and onion gravy.
Delicious I thought. Unbelievably delicious.
What is "lambs fry"? I asked.
Lambs liver.
Well there y go -how come it tastes so good.
Most people overcook it.My mum overcooked it he said.SNAP.
I now devour liver with the gusto of a starving Goanna.

The Secret is -thin thin slices, a dust of flour, hot pan sizzling butter. Very quick both sides. Eat.
It needs to be juicy.
cheers.

I was tasked with retrieving an injured Python a couple of days ago.
Apparently it had been thrown from a car outside someones house after they parked there and had a massive blue in the wee hours..
The householder had put it in a box.It was to be released into the wilds of Mt Keira.
Unfortunately it was DOA with blood coming from its nose and mouth when I got there..
My theory-it was a pet belonging to people who should never have animals. It had been badly mistreated.
At home later
I cut its head off and skinned it. There was nothing in its guts which means it hadn't eaten for some time(not a big deal for a snake).
It is now soaking in a mix of metho and glycerine.

We have no snakes on Lewis. What are you planning to do with it Meako?

I will get the rolled up (like a toilet roll) skin out of the potion tomorrow.
It will be stretched out and tacked to a fence paling to hopefully stop it from curling .
It should be soft and pliable.I might get a hat band and maybe some to use on a knife handle.
Watch this space for a pic.
Cheerz.

As for the head .ive got that under a flower pot up the garden.the ants should do their work removing all flesh and skin in approximately 3 weeks.then its into some bleach for a clean . hopefully the skull will be ok in one piece.i think it suffered a head trauma which killed it sadly.not a big snake at just over a metre long.only a baby.:(

Good for you buddy. Glad to hear they'll be some life for it yet, as it were. :)

I used to see adders during the summer in Derbyshire. My mother was bitten by one once, her whole leg became swollen. It was quite scary!

Blimey! Despite all my time spent out walking and climbing, I don't think I've ever seen a snake in this country

Really?!?!

We were walking on the hill above Wirksworth and Cromford at the time, not far from the triangulation point. My folks had a cottage at Bolehill.

For every snake you see there was 15 you didn't see. They are hide n seek blue ribbon champions.

Yeah, strange isn't it?

I know where you mean Paul.

True, my friend, they could probably hear my big feet coming! :D

Thanks Paul
It was either that or its going in the bin.
Here are some pics in the mean time of a success story with one of the same species-Morelia spilota Diamond Python.
See what I mean about hide and seek- I'm almost 6ft tall but there's no way I could hide in that bag

Slither and be free! Ryan handled this python like a pro. NB these pics are 3 years old.

This is Ryans "pet" Spotted Python- these are among the smallest species and come from the northern parts of Aus.
Full grown at just over 1 metre. It was seized in a drug raid and baloted to us thru the reptile society. Why do druggies keep reptiles?
Very friendly and handles well -except if you are a rat(frozen and warmed for dinner):)
