"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I hate animal cruelty!

Especially in my own family.

Pearl the Wonder Corgi is such a loyal, loving, and outstanding companion, I don't know why Karen, and her two sisters Diane and Romelie, and granddaughter Briana, went and got a halloween costume for her. Pearl's sense of dignity must certainly be offended by this travesty committed on such a noble dog. She kept looking over at me with this look that said "Daddy, help me, please!"

I don't know what they are thinking!!!

Hah! Yes, Carl, it seems that there is a certain desperation in those eyes... a yearning to be free, as it were. You know what must be done; use the stockman to free Pearl from her bonds!

Err, wait a moment, that might not go over well with Karen.

Carl, I hear you my friend, Nanc did the same thing with our little Sheltie Harley. Costumes, Winter coats and even sweaters:eek: I'd get that same "oh my God, please help me" look. My heart would ache for the poor girl:o

I'm reading Pearl's expression as, "I am going to get treats for this, right!?!? :)

And indeed she did!

As soon as they were don humiliating the poor girl, I was right there with her bag of jerky treats. There has to be some kind of reward for her ordeal!

Hi Gang- Well... I'm back with a traditional folder. And, I think I'm here to stay.
My rational mind tells me that an inexpensive, traditional folder is all I really need. It took me too long to realize this or, with age, comes wisdom.

I posted this in the 2014 forum knife gallery but I'm posting it here too in the hope that I'll have luck with finding out who it was who was so good to me.

THERE'S SOMETHING SPOOKY GOING ON!!!

This arrived in the post. I didn't order it.

I contacted Barry to tell him that I hadn't bought one this year due to an incoming baby, and I was worried I'd been sent one in error and someone would've missing out... I then received an email from Charlie saying that a mysterious benefactor had stepped up to assist me in my plight and that it wasn't him!

Will the mystery traditional blade forums present giver please make themselves known?

This deserves a special thank you and I am extremely grateful - this is a lovely piece of cutlery.

Lately I've been doing more looking than buying, in fact the last knife I purchased is a GEC Bullnose a while back. Many beautiful knives up for sale these days but I been holding back because of finances. So I've been looking at the less expensive knives and really nothing over $80, plus there are so many good deals on used knives out there. Take for example the Old Timers. I see many of them out there and in good condition for a fraction of the price of a new expensive blade. Buck's offerings are affordable, less flashy, but very functional. Excuse me for rambling on, but wanted to see if you have a limit.

I try to limit myself to dirty looks from the wife. When she pulls out the frying pan I know I've gone too far. :p

I only own two traditional knives that cost me over $100. The 2013 BF forum knife, and the recent Canal Street Eric's Jack, which was the runner-up for the 2104 BF forum knife that was made and released separately.

I own some that were just shy of $100. The majority were under $50. Some of my favorites that I frequently carry were under $30.

A full answer is more complex than just "do you have a limit" since it varies depending on the make, style, and intended use.

Also, it is utterly dependent on a person's relative wealth. For some people, a $100 knife is an extravagant luxury. Some people use $100 bills to light cigars.

I am ordering a new custom that will be almost 300. That will be my most expensive to date. I have a couple customs that I bought off the exchange for around 200.

No hard limit. I buy a few GECs but my real passion lies in custom slipjoints. I don't have a lot of knives, less than 10 presently with 2 being custom knives. I'd honestly be happy with something around 5 total, with the better part of those being customs and one or two GECs thrown in for fun.
