G'day:D
Tomorrow Monday 26th January is Australia Day commemorating the arrival of the first fleet in 1788 and the claiming of Australia in the name of King George 3rd.
The whole business of discovering the place and colonising it took a bit of doing and so should be commemorated I think.

Many Australians see it as little more than a commemoration of public drunkenness/a chance to push some political wheelbarrow.The fact is we love public holidays and if you want to call it "invasion day" or "lesbians with chainsaws day" or "lets get a new flag day" or whatever-No worries, just get another date.Happy to get the day off and ignore the cause completely.

If anyone is keen ,how about posting some fact or fiction about Australia that you know of.
eg -Did you know that Vegemite makes an excellent substitute for sunscreen? just smear it on,crack a beer and get the meat on.
GOOD ON YA.

Happy Australia Day, Meako!

Anyone having haggis today for Robert Burn's birthday? Me, neither :eek::D

(actually, I would probably try a bite if it were put in front of me. :D For sure not kosher, though! :eek:)

ODE TO A HAGGIS

Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face,
Great Chieftan o’ the Puddin-race!
Aboon them a’ ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang’s my arm

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
You pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o’need
While thro’ your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead

His knife see Rustic-labour dight,
An’ cut you up wi’ ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reeking, rich!

Then, horn for horn they stretch an’ strive,
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a’ their weel-swall’d kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive
Bethankit hums

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi’ perfect sconner,
Looks down wi’ sneering, scornfu’ view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither’d rash
His spindle-shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro’ bluidy flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He’ll mak it whissle;
An’ legs, an’ arms an’ heads will sned,
Like taps o’ thrissle

Ye pow’rs wha mak mankind your care,
An’ dish them out their bill o’fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu’ pray’r,
Gie her a Haggis!

Happy Australia Day my friend.

Here's a fact. Tim Tams, that delightful cookie of Australian origin, are now available in several countries including here in the U.S. According to my sister, the family authority on all things Australian (she spent a semester in Queensland studying at USQ in Hervey Bay), the only Tim Tams worthy of the name are the ones made in Australia. Everything else is a poor imitation.

I was stricken to find out that Arnott's discontinued the honeycomb variety. What were they thinking? Those were the best Tim Tams by far. Eejits!

Have you tried the Tim Tam Trick yet Christian? ;)

The Tim Tam Slam? I tried it with milk once, didn't care for it. I heard the trick also works with hot chocolate. Sounds delicious, I've gotta go out and get some. Thanks for nothing Jack! ;)

You're welcome Christian! :D I've never actually had a Tim Tam, but saw this on one of the very rare occasions I have watched TV, must be 15 years ago, and for some reason it stuck in my head, funny what you remember! :D

Scotch fillet is about as close as I got to celebrating Burns birthday.
Can you BBQ haggis?

I've been looking at the forecast for the north east coast of the American continent. Take care guys and gals, looks like you're in for a bit of a walloping. Keeping my fingers crossed for you all.

Jack -a Tim Tam is a close cousin of the Penguin biscuit which you can probably get at your local supermarket.

Aha, thanks for that piece of info my friend :) Ooh, it must be 20 years since I had a Penguin biscuit. I'm going to have to start living a little! :thumbup:

Yes. Wrap it in foil. Consume with whisky. Bonza. :D

I'll wait til the weather cools down a bit-say around May/June and it shall be done.
It 'll probably take me that long to source a Mchaggis anyway.
Might even try it over open coals.

Is anyone else having problems with Photobucket? This past week I've had a load of photos deleted, sometimes immediately after I've uploaded them, sometimes a day or two later. It's really annoying as of course the pics then disappear from threads :(

I haven't had anything deleted, but I suddenly have pages of the same picture:eek:, and it takes sooo long to delete them! I'd love to delete them and save space, but sheesh, I aint got all day. Photobucket is one of the most sluggish sites I've used.:thumbdn:

I also had that yesterday, seven copies of the same image which I'd only uploaded once. It really is sluggish isn't it, I used to find it OK, but recently...:thumbdn: I've just uploaded another pic, took ages, then it came up just like the previous ones :( I'm going to set up another account and try that.

Paradoxically, this screenshot has been hosted! :eek: For now anyway! :grumpy:
