I got attacked by a virus on my PC which was very bad.

I had to delete my whole HD and reinstall all the programms. I think, the main problem was I had a free antivirus software. It failed. So I bought a program that was a professional antivirus program and still runs in the background. While I was installing all the former programs, I got several warnings and even one attack

The sites i was downloading were the ones I used in the past and were trusty, I thought.

I higly recommend everyone to get a paid antivirus program as it works ways better than the free ones. At least IMO.

Gonna go to bed soon - this was quite stressy. And I don´t know what was hacked more ...

Sorry about the Attack, I found that often the program called Malwarebytes can solve or uninstall the virus without a total hardware rebuild. Hope all is well now! Steven

I use a Mac. Very few virus program's get written for Mac software. I've yet (touch wood) to have any issues...

FWIW My protection has been the free version of Avast with a firewall on my router for some years now. I've not had a virus in that time. But I am careful where I surf, so I might not be good evidence that the anti-virus works.

We have malawarebytes -our PC dude looks after all thart -and never had a problem.touch wood.

When the family was going to gift me one of these computer things, I chose Mac because of what I read about their resistance to things like that.

Yeah we just switched to Macs as well. I got tired of disinfecting and reloading our PC every time my son (7 at the time) clicked an accept button while on Mincraft!

Something nice happened to me and Claire last night that I wanted to share;

I live in the Outer Hebrides. It's a place which has had a declining population over the last 50 years or so, as the younger generations moved to the mainland or abroad to find work. It is a place of community. Close communities that look after each other fiercely. We moved here some three years ago and discovered a lifestyle and a surrogate family the like of which I have never experienced before.

Moving onto last night... Well the village gets together at special occasions and the Six Nations rugby tournament is a big deal so we all met at one family's house for drinks and to watch the games on telly and generally make merry etc. Whilst there one of the old bodachs (Dan is 80, and still parties like he's 18) handed Claire an envelope with a rather embarrassing sum of money in it and a card for Rory. He insisted we take it saying "it's nice to see young people coming into the village again!"

He truly meant it. In this modern era of instant communication and online living, it's wonderful to find people who genuinely take delight in their neighbours and an interest in the lives of those who reside amongst them.

I think the reason this forum is so enjoyable is that it reflects that mentality. I do so like the porch here, but I love my neighbourhood.

Paul

Great story, sounds like you fit right in there my friend - as indeed you do here of course :)

That is a great story! I do envy your new home, what I have seen of it from your pictures and a bit of Google. I also realize that I know my wife would never want to live in a place like that for the very reasons that appeal to me (Open space, friendly folk around and small town life). Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing that great story, Paul. I'm happy you and Claire are able to live in such a place! That is the kind of community we all long for, whether we live in a tiny village on an island, or in the big city. I can't imagine a better place to watch the Six Nations. It would even make rugby fans out of Americans.

Nice story Paul.
I have some experience of small, closed communities. I assume they're not for everyone, but they do have some great things, and you just experienced one :)
Now, as for the rugby game.........

Fausto,

I think when it came down to brass tacks - Italy wanted it more. Sigh.
