"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I just wanted to take the time to say how much I have enjoyed this year with y'all here on the porch. The number of spectacular knives, the kindness, the camaraderie, the stories, the knowledge that gets passed on, I've never seen anything like it on the internet. Here's wishing everyone a fun, relaxing, healthy, Labor Day Weekend!

You to buddy. Noticed your whittling pics in the other thread, well done. I wish I had the time...maybe one day.

No worries.
Although we don't celebrate labour day on this particular date we do have several of our own:welcoming::welcoming:
Labour Day 2015
Monday, March 2, 2015 (Western Australia)
Monday, March 9, 2015 (Victoria)
Monday, March 9, 2015 (Tasmania)
Monday, May 4, 2015 (Northern Territory)
Monday, October 5, 2015 (Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia)
How good is that?
All jokes aside that is such a great sentiment -I too enjoy the porch -so much so that I recently coined the term "porchworthy" -perhaps you've heard of it.
I hereby declare that in the case of any prior usage of the term "porchworthy" I am to be considered "a huge liar who did not actually invent the word".

That said, I would now like to thank Evan aka Esnyx for taking the time to re post a knife to me which I would not otherwise have been able to purchase due to the "tyranny of distance".That knife will be in a picture in the beer scout thread very soon.
Thanks mate and project Rusa is forming slowly-in other words I can not for the life of me find that old cel Camilluss scout knife and so have decided on an alternative -A lovely Schrade 835Y whose yellow del handles are both cracked at the pivot pins.I think it will suffice.

It's becominging a reality!

We got a solid off on rthe house, and maybe will have a contract in 24 hours. They want a settlement date in late october, but that's okay. Cooler weather to move in. The move to Texas is becoming more real. Lots of mixed feelings, like I will be leaving my home state never to return. But I won't miss the politics or the over crowding that has become the norm. I will miss the eastern hardwood forest, but I have the Texas hill country to explore now. Maybe go down to San Antone to old haunts with Karen. Plus this will put us only a day and a half drive from Jess and her family in Mission Viejo California. I won't miss as much of Bree growing up as would have living on the opposite coast.

I know there's lots of forum members in Texas, so maybe this will lead to new friendships as well. Who knows.

Good luck on your adventure Carl. Please keep us up to date as much as possible.

Andi,
sorry for your wife's grandma. I do understand her (and your) loss pretty well in this particular moment. Prayers for her, and for your both.

Carl,
sometimes it's good to just let things go, be it a knife (just like I'm about to do) or a home or state.
And I'm sure you'll be absolutely happy in Texas :)

Fausto

Happy Trails Carl, good luck with your new adventure

Rest Easy Carl -apparently -or so I've heard tell- the stars-at night -shine big and bright----deep in the heart of Texas.
-thats what THEY reckon.

Evan -I'm sending both-I found the scout knife in the drawer.

Congrats and good luck on the move. Hope you get some land to do some shooting on.

An English meal?

On information from our very own Jack, a good Yorkshireman, Karen and I decided on a good English meal to go with the Twinings English Breakfast tea. Baked beans and toast. I think I remember reading that the English consume more baked beans than any other place on earth, to include Boston.

It was very enjoyable. Now having had our protean for the day, we will endeavor to remain in outdoor pursuits the rest of the day!:D

Beans... I like them in any way they are served :)
When I was younger and went to heavy metal festivals during summer I remember we ate them for breakfast, but cold and just with some instant coffee and cold toast bread. Not as fine as your feast, Carl. Believe me.

Just for me to know - why Boston? Do the people there enjoy beans more than others?
