"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Pastries, scones and such do appeal.

This section of the grocery store?

Notsomuch.

(I took this picture at my local very small grocery just now for y'all, especially for our members from ports afar. The bigger stores likely have More. Or maybe not; sometimes it's the smaller venues that go all in for this type of thing.)

I see CORNED BEEF there! Some slices of that with horseradish and a thinly sliced (insert knife of choice here) tomato on top of bread is most welcome:cool:

Slice corned beef into medium thin slices. Fry till slightly crispy brown. place a poached egg on top of each slice and salt/pepper to taste and enjoy. Have a well toasted English muffin on the side with some orange marmalade and strong coffee and I'm a very happy camper!!!!:)

Edited because of accursed auto correct!

I actually gagged just reading that word! :barf: :D

A pleasure mate  Those were grim times for sure, and to make matters worse, my mother was a terrible cook (and my father a lazy $%£&@)! It took me a long time to realise what the phrase 'just like mother makes' actually meant! :D The only thing I did like at school was 'cheese pie', quite an odd thing really, but at least it wasn't full of bits of eyeball, hair, and gristle! :barf: It seemed to be unique to the British school menu of the time, as I've never seen it anywhere else.

My grandad defined 'wholesome 'food as food that is made of holes.Eyeholes earholes lips and @£&holes.

It's even better with stolen beef! ;)

Hi! I figured this was as good a place as any to say "hello" again. I've been absent from here for a while. Several things kind of took the joy out life's frivolities like pocket knives, pens, etc., and I ended up selling a lot of my collections because I just didn't "feel it" anymore. Things are looking better lately, though, and I've found myself interested in my old, uh, interests again, as well as a new one or two. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi to everyone I know here. I guess I have some reading to do. Hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Great to see you again. Funny how things turn around isn't it?

For various reasons which I shan't go into here, it's a Steeleye Span day.
In the 70's I had something like 6 of their LP's. They might actually be stashed in some nook in the garage. But these days I listen to the albums I download from iTunes.

They have the most amazing things on Youtube. I found this promo filmed in 1975. For those of the Yank persuasion who never heard them...

I moved into a new apartment. My sweetie came to visit. We heard music from the flat below.

She said, “They’re playing Steeleye Span. They can’t be all bad.”

Welcome back, bwp.

Welcome back, Sir! :)

Great to see you around here.

Welcome back to the porch, Blaine!

Cheerios.

--- Welcome back, Blaine! I've missed you 'round here.

Thanks, guys! It is kind of funny how things all of a sudden just mellow out. I feel like I've gained a lot of perspective on learning when to let things happen vs. when to make things happen, and how to tell when it's time for something to change.

On a lighter note, I spent the day with the family at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History today learning about animals and fossils and Egypt and stuff with the kids.

Happy Steeleye Span Day Frank, you old groover! :) Thanks for the video, will have to check out some of the others:thumbup:

Hope you're doing OK Blaine, it's good to have you back on The Porch, sounds like you had a good weekend my friend
