"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I'm afraid that I won't get a lot of time on here today as I have guests, but just wanted to wish all my forum family a very Happy Christmas :)

I logged on this morning to find I had won Randy's traditional Christmas Eve giveaway of a subscription to either Blade or Knife World :) Great news for me, as I'm not able to get these publications here. Thanks a lot Randy

My William Rodgers Sleeveboard out in Leeds city centre yesterday.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Some Christmas colors to celebrate the holiday:

To my traditional forum family;

This has been a whirlwind year in general, and a tornado in the past two months in particular. Personal stuff in addition to the cross country move, and all the unforeseen hassle that goes with that has been trying. Having a rental truck go lame in Arkansas, driving through torrential downpours and floods in Texas, living out of a duffel bag at the bottom of a sister in laws closet is a bit much at this age. Playing tag with depression can be a bummer, but I have good days as well as bad, so it evens out.

But…

On my bad days, especially the bad days, when I come here to my online family, I regain my faith in the human race. I always knew this place was a special one, but after seeing the rally of all of you for our forum brother, Bob, I am especially proud to call all of you brother. Or sister in some cases!

So I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year. If I were to keel over with the big one today, I am glad I found and was able to take part in this very special forum, made up by very special people. But I plan on being around for sone time yet, and look forward to meeting up with some of our central Texas members in the near future.

God Bless you all.

Carl.

Merry Christmas to all.

Carl, hope you enjoy central Texas. There is a good bit to explore. Spring is wonderful with the blue bonnets and other wild flowers. I still have my "Texas Bluebonnet" painting on display in my house since the mid-70's. It was the first original I ever purchased. Never dreamed my whole house would be filled with paintings back then. Art is sort of like knives..... they pile up.

Be careful what you wish for! My plan for a 'lazy day' yesterday went differently to what I'd planned as I went down with some kind of weird virus, and slept through most of the past 36 hours! Still feeling groggy now. I woke to hear news that parts of Leeds are under water due to flooding, so it's as well I live on a hill. otherwise my bed might have floated off down the River Aire!

Flooding is the WORST, so glad you weren't floating, Jack.

Thanks Jeff, I slept so heavily I'm not sure I'd have noticed! :D When Sheffield flooded about 10 years ago, a friend of mine was asleep in bed, and got woken up by the Army helicopter, everyone else had been evacuated, and he'd slept right through it! :D

This must be my Unlucky day. I want to buy a new knife today so I have been going to the exchange every little bit and still missed a couple of knives I would have bought. After the response to Bob's fund raiser I really want to support the members here however if no luck by this evening guess it's off to KSF or Collectors Knives also in the back of my mind Gunstockjack sells knives best send him a PM before this Christmas money burns a hole in my pocket and I lose it on something stupid like ammo. I have enough firearms and ammo now to participate in a small war. By the way thanks again for the outpouring of donations for Bob. When I first started the thread I was hoping for maybe $1500. We have more than doubled that amount and this thing is going until February 1. Thank you all for letting me a part of this wonderful little place on the internet you guy's an gal's seem like family.

Jack, that flooding looks bad. I've been hearing about it on the news. Prayers sent for those effected by it. Glad you're safe and sound and not rafting down the river. Hope you're feeling better.
I had a bad day yesterday. Got very tired after Christmas day. Doing a little better today.
Randy, the generosity is astounding. Especially considering the time of year and I can only imagine a lot of folks are tapped out. But they still came through in an amazing way. Family is the correct term.

Glad you are felling better today  This is a family in my mind and though I have never laid eyes on these folks I truly feel they are some of my best friends and favorite people, including you Bob. Keep on keeping on my friend.

Jack to bad you're sick. I told you not to pour that flooding water into your whisky. Always drink it DRY! :D (This reminds me of Skipton rugby field in 2012, where we expected to camp...)
The yearly sweepstake is not over, better keep some strength for next friday!
All the best for you All!

Say Jack, I have some plans for a boat you may find handy if it rains anymore there. You'll need a good supply of wood, for about 300 cubits by 50 cubits!
:D

That's some flooding there, Jack. Hope you feel better. We've been having quite a bit of rain here (now I'm afraid to sleep!)

Good to see you here when you feel up to it, Bob.
