"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Life is filled with change, nothing seems to stay the same but there is one constant... God our Creator loves us. If we seek Him we will find Him an ever present help in our time of need. Ryan my wife and I will pray for you and your family.

we still are so very lucky to look up and see that beautiful Blue Sky( anyone taken 10 minutes to do that lately? )

Life is good

Duncan, I am lucky to call you "my friend" NO ONE is more positive or supporting than you... You enthusiasm is contagious!!! After each phone call we have my mind and spirit is in a better place then it was before we spoke.

I happen to know some of your history through many conversations and think to myself..."I better quit my bitchin" simply because of what you've lived through and are going through. We've gained insight about each other and realize we have so much in common in regards to morals and ethics, likes and dislikes.

You've walked the walk my friend and inspire me every day...many others here as well. Nanc says that I notice things that ordinary people don't? I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not:D

But to answer your quote adout taking time to look up and enjoy. Yes today with Buddy by my side and a Grey Sky overhead...but there was serious beauty in the Grey sky, I'm sure it was because of the company I kept today:thumbup:

Paul, I am so sorry for the loss of your girl, Jess. Our dogs are a member of our family, and they are a great loss when they leave. I have lost two dogs in my life and both were black days after. I can only hope that the Rainbow bridge can be real someday, and we will meet them again in a better place.

Paul,
sorry for your loss.

Ryan and Duncan,
yes, an aneurysm is serious business, and major surgery for sure. Yet...only a small percentage of them produce symptoms, which means you either find out about them casually...or in an emergency situation (or worse). So (as porch friend, and physician working with this sort of things), be positive about it. Sometimes you just have to thank fate for discovering these problems in a totally casual way.

Take care folks!

Fausto

Very true Paul, Duncan is one in a million :)

Very sorry to hear that Buddy is no better :( I guess we all get old, but it is hard watching your old pals age so quickly, as dogs do.

Take care Ryan, hope all's going to be well with your dad

Great bunch of folks we have here :)

Paul, my deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of Jess. She sounds wonderful, everything anyone could hope for in a four-legged friend. I hope good memorIes of happy times can sustain you all in the coming days.

Duncan and Ryan, so sorry to hear about the aneurysm issues in your lives. You're both highly valued members of the porch, and your warmth and kindness come through in what you do here. Best wishes to you Duncan, and to your father, Ryan.

What a kind and generous gift, Jack… Not to mention beautiful! That's an exceptional piece of cutlery. Duncan, congratulations on such a fine token of friendship. I'd be interested to know if you have any more information on your great uncle's medals.

I'm glad the package brightened your week up a little my friend. I hope next week is even better for you :)

LOL! Love it! :D

It looks like Santa Jack has been very busy in the post-Christmas season! Good on you, and good on you for sharing such cheer with Bob!

Bob, congratulations on the gifts from Scheffield, York, and Leeds. I'm sure these will bring warm memories of friendship every time you look at them.

Hi Robb
Please - I thank you for your kind thoughts - and you said such nice things- that's so nice of you - to be honest though Robb - I am in no situation where people need to feel for me- as I said - I am extremely lucky my friend- there are SO many people SO worse off than me- I am able to live life and love it - so that makes me very lucky. :)

I know very little about these medals were not anything to do with the War.
As you can see the left is for 5 a side 1909. The right medal was for Champion shot 1916.

I remember as a very young boy- 8 or 9 I just don't know when I was having a absolute fit at my parents trying a last stand in the Hallway for Uncle Duncan's medals - now these were War medals- my Farher and Mother were leaving to go to Auckland to sell them. Even then I knew the importance - sorry probably importance to me. They sold them- I can never understand why - they were not desperate for money and I will never forget that moment of such anguish knowing I had lost them forever.

I was so proud of my Uncle Duncan even though I knew little of him. I can still see the silver medals and coloured Ribbons in my Fathers hands.
In the end he would have received very little for such treasure.

I go in for yet another MRI on the 22nd

Good luck with that my friend, you always put such a brave face on things

My dad's uncle - Bill - had a heck of a war - Dunkirk, Al Alamein, Tobruck, Monte Casino, etc. He was a tank driver and was blown up three times - the only medal I have of his is a football medal! :D I dare say he had others, I don't know. The football medal was given to me as a small boy just as a toy to play with. When I was small, my dad's family lived in a tiny old house, they didn't have anything at all, not really any ornaments, and never seemed to really keep or accumulate anything. I guess my hoarding comes from the other side of the family! :D My maternal grandparents came from a background even poorer than my dad's folks, but got moved into a modern council flat after the slum-clearance programme of the 1960's demolished their home. They had two bedrooms, one of which you could barely get into because of all their accumulated stuff (my grandad's extensive fishing tackle collection, my grandma's various hoardings - cigarette coupons and Green Shield stamps!)! :D

That story of loss makes me really sad-- because of what was lost and because it was so very preventable. What a waste. Some people just don't have a connection to people, events or artifacts from the past. I don't understand that personally, and I expect most people hanging out in the Traditionals Forum do cherish those connections to the past. It seems you figured that out at least as early as eight or nine years old.

I hope you have in your possession, or can find, his service records that indicate the medals he earned and what he did to earn them. Campbell Clan heritage.

The last few weeks have been very hard, and finally this afternoon our beloved Jess gave up her struggle with chronic heart disease.
uuuggghhhhhhh. Life just has so much pain. You'll see her shadow for some time. Dogs just make life so much better which is why we painfully miss them when they are gone.

Paul, I am very sorry for your loss, Prayer for you and yours! I am mixed on being able to see the Cairn, not sure I am strong enough for that. May better days be on the way for you! As for that last visit, well that was just wind on the grass, nothing more!

Animals are members of the family and the loss of one a very hard moment. After the pain will come the moment of sweet souvenirs and there is probably a lot.

I'm quite glad to be on the porch, as you all are the kindest and most amiable folks I've met in any corner of the internet. Watching people get torn to shreds in General and other subforums is disheartening, and kinda makes me never want a modern knife. You guys and gals have shown nothing but help, support, a friendly approach, and good humor in every thread I see.
From the bottom of my heart, thanks.

Connor
