The span is 100 feet. It's sided for the same reason it's covered - to proctect the structural members/trusses from weather

True, but even more important to those who originally built them was that the solid sides kept the horses from being spooked during the crossing and getting out of control.

I used to run in an annual Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Quechee, Vermont. It was a beautiful, unique venue with four covered bridges, two of which we ran through. It was an exhilarating experience to race through the cool, dark atmosphere of a covered bridge.

I love my old flip phone. Still holding out as long as I can from getting a smartphone. I'm too afraid of turning into one of those people with their face buried in their phone all the time.

I refuse to carry a phone that is smarter than I am.

Just sayin'.

Thanks for the information guys, much appreciated

That's right! Or I often blatantly say, "Didn't feel like switching it on today":D:D

Good for you Will  I hate the darn things! I didn't like the older variety much, but now I have to carry something twice as big, which I can't use in sunlight, and which keeps trying to outsmart me! :grumpy:

I don't think my Samsung is anywhere near as smart as it thinks it is! ;)

All this talk of smart phones and the headless horseman seems all the more relevant .;)

Until last Christmas I was using a Motorola 195 flip phone/dumb phone. Didn't even have a camera. My wife gave me a Samsung S6 for Christmas. Outstanding gift! No way am I going back to a dumb phone with tiny screen. Just having the GPS navigation for my out-of-the-way trips and side excursions is excellent. Pull up a locale or site on google and in two clicks I'm driving to it with confidence in the fastest route. No way am I ever going back to a dumb phone.

The only reason I have a smart phone is that it was free when my contract came up for renewal. The only things I know how to do on it is text and make and receive calls. I also bought my wife a new Cadillac CTS4 that I have no idea how to use the features in the thing. It has a heads up display that appears on the windshield that drives me crazy. I'll just stick to my 2005 Honda Pilot.

+1
The smartphone is key when travelling, especially with kids. I love being able to pull up nearby attractions at the drop of a hat, or being able to find good restaurants wherever I go.

Another feature that I really like is the calendar. I've never been good with keeping track of upcoming events. In the past when I was out of the house and somebody invited me to something I'd have to write myself a note and then transfer it to the calendar when I got home that night, if I remembered. Usually, the note would end up on my dresser when I emptied my pockets at night and I'd find it about a week after the date that was written on it. Now I just pop it into my phone and it syncs with my computer calendar and a little thing pops up every morning telling me what I have coming up. It's a much better system.

Other than that the most useful thing is being able to pull up Tapatalk when I'm at my in-laws and they're all sitting around watching the Golf Channel.

I still have an old flip-phone as does my wife. Her's even has a pull up antenna on it. We got them sometime around 2005.

We can't get a cell signal at our house even with a booster. No one has ever been able to no matter the carrier - AT&T, Verison, T Mobil, U. S. Cellular whatever. It's kinda funny to look at the expressions of people who realize they can't get a call in or out when visiting us. It just drives my Grand kids crazy when they come up from L.A. and can't text with their friends.

We do have Wi-Fi . We get it via DSL through a DSL modem. Works great. I'm still thinking of getting a smart phone and putting an app on it that will allow phone calls via our Wi-Fi connection. I've heard the smart phones are intuitive:eek:

I have been little bit of a drifter for a while now in BladeForums and lately I have felt more and more home here at the traditionals section. :)
Now now, that doesn't mean I haven't preferred slippies so far! ;)

speaking of cars, i hate all the new fangled stuff with the push buttons to start keys. i drive the oldest car we have when I have to drive that is. I dont like driving all that much. Thats too much! heads up display, its not a video game consult there!

I have a 2011 toyota hilux dual cab .No remote. I actually have to insert the key into the lock to get in.
Something that disturbs me is the availability of phone holders for smart phones that stick on the windscreen in front of your face.
Why don't they just sell mini kegs of beer to go in the car as well. Its been tested and peoples driving becomes a lot worse when engaged in conversation even on a hands free (yer hands might be free but yer brain isn't)-worse in fact than drivers who are over the limit .That was before the advent of the smartphone.Next time you at the lights glance around at the other drivers to see who is focused on the road and who is on the phone.

Push button to start appeared with the first electric starters, no key back then! And now they claim it is the last word of modernity!

On my bikes I do have a head on display, that's when I smell the scents of the fields/forrests on the roadside! And I have a protoype GPS, made of paper, they call that a map I think. Very practical indeed :).
I heard through the grapevine recently that pre-2000 motorcycles will be banned off Paris as of July 1st from 7 am to 8pm.
Mines date of 1975 and 1991. I think I will from now on call them rolling museums and ignore the silly law! :grumpy:

Phone usage in cars is the bane of motorcyclist. Drivers were already too distracted with personal grooming, eating, daydreaming etc. to notice motorcycles long before cell phones and texting. I know folks that are deciding who they are going to call as they approach their cars. They consider driving a waste of time and must fill it with something more fulfilling such as discussing lawn care with friends. Jolipapa is correct, and test have proven these people are as dangerous behind the wheel as one who has had a few to many.
Jolipapa, is the Paris ban on motorcycles an effort toward cleaner air?

This is what the mayoress (?) claims, but they narrowed former wide boulevards from 2 lanes to one, thus jamming voluntarily the traffic... only pushbikes are allowed in the bus lanes. Older cars will be banned too. In fact they want to prevent people using their cars downtown and take the bus or metro, but why would I wait for up to 1/2 an hour, then change bus and travel nearly an hour and pay near 2€, when it take only 1/4h to make the 12km on the motorcycle?
And except a few summer days, air is not too polluted, there are indicators measuring air quality and they show usually between 3 and 5 which is good.

Thanks for the explanation. Things can sound good while not making sense. Most drivers are unaffected by laws regarding motorcycles so they're easier to pass. Then governments can point to these new laws and say "See we're doing something." Ride safe. -James-

Sorry I haven't been around much lately everyone...if anyone has noticed. My father left this world last Wednesday and I've just been somewhat keeping to myself. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and I will be back soon.

Sorry for your loss, Robert. My condolences to you and your family.
