"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I'm glad someone else knows what Indian clubs are/were.
We visited an old town called Gulgong in western NSW-(if you can get hold of an aussie 10dollar note there's a picture of Gulgong on it)
They have a museum which takes up about 3/5 of the town! It has everything from traction engines to needle work- all donated locally.
AND Indian clubs -I was the only one who knew what they were.

Our ghetto backyard fire pit. Love it. And old bent small wrought iron table my son rescued years ago from a neighbor's curbside on trash day, an old inexpensive portable charcoal BBQ grill my son bought a few years ago, and a freebee veggie grill screen my MIL got from a casino down in Mississippi. Works very well. We'll get a lot of use out of it.

That astonishes me too. Not a hundred years ago you'd find them in any gym. They must appear in old movies and TV shows, though I can't come up with chapter and verse off the top of my head.

Nice work, but I thought the ghetto fire pit was a 55-gallon drum.

Sometimes exercise equipment goes in and out of fashion. Kettle bells have definitely been back in vogue the past couple of years. I think I may have an old book with illustrations showing the use of the indian clubs, I'll post pics if I can find it

I was googling the electric horses I mentioned earlier, and you can still buy something like them, though more compact. The one I rode was tall and long like a horse's back.

I did Tom Burrows' 24 scientific exercises with the clubs for a long time:a reasonably lengthed, reasonably rigorous, reasonably interesting work-out.

I think physical therapists prescribe the more conventional club-swinging for joint repair.

I'm sure some of you guys must remember the 'Bullworker', the pawn shops here were always full of them! :D

Blimey Jack, that`s a blast from the past! Sorry to hear about the back, by the way. I will send you a surprise to cheer you up.

Isn't Google great?! ;) :D

Ha! :D I would post the "Shake Weight" in response, but I'm afraid it may violate forum rules.

Thank you for not sharing :D

:D

Ive got one.:D

:D When I was 18, I was sharing a house with two guys who were in their early 30's. One night, we had been to the local pub, and walking home, we came across a 'Bullworker' just dumped in the street. One of them carried it home under his arm, and after a few more beers in the house, the two 'older' guys decided to start testing their strength. The next day, they were both struggling to get out of bed! :D

Jack, sometime with the same cause I get the same effect, but I do even not need a bullworker for that! :D
Hope your back is getting better.

In lieu of health advice, as my back is in young and fit shape (I can offer good advice for hand pain if needed) I'll share a tidbit my interviewer told me.

I was saying how I thought myself one of the best caddies at our course, but that I didn't want to toot my own horn.
Her response was, "Honey, if you don't play it nobody else will."
I think thats good advice, don't be obnoxious or play someone else's song claiming it as yours, but don't be afraid to play to the heavens and be proud of yourself. It feels good.

I also bought another watch, from 79 I believe.

Cheers all, have a day!

Fellow members on the porch, I want to reach out and thank a wonderful friend and forum member. Duncan Morgan, a friend to so many here who's generosity knows no bounds!!!

We share a love of dogs and Duncan asked for a picture of or beloved Buddy Boy, my avatar since I've been a member here. Buddys health started to fail sometime ago as dogs do as they age. We noticed his hips becoming arthritic as well as his hearing starting to fade. I told Duncan that Buddy is that dog, friend and companion that comes along once in a lifetime.

Well Duncan is so kind and generous he just said "Paul mate please send me a photo of your wee boy" now those may not be the exact words but they were very close:o Duncan said that a passion and past time of his is to draw pictures of friend and family's precious pets.

Duncan and I speak most times once a week or every other week. He would tell me he was progressing on Buddy's picture and at times email updates...the updates were amazing and Nanc and I would stare in amazement of the pure talent Duncan possesses. Then one day he said he dropped Buddys picture in the mail and to keep an eye out for it. When it arrived Nanc and I were stunned, taken aback, overwhelmed and absolutely amazed at what shear talent Duncan has!!! We knew we could never thank him for such a precious gift, we know we will never be able to express our sincere thanks. I will post below both the picture I emailed Duncan and the AMAZING picture that Duncan drew. It will amaze you as it has both Nanc and I. One more thing, often times Duncan would apologize as he thought he wasn't getting Buddy's picture quite right!?!?! What is neat is in the background I'd hear hear Sue Duncan's wounderful wife scold him and tell him "Lovey it's BEAUTIFUL" Sue was so right:thumbup: know this, Duncan has over 100 hours into this work of art!!!

Sorry for such a long post but I feel all needed to be said. THANK YOU DUNCAN FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS MY FRIEND!!! NANC AND I CAN NEVER REPAY YOU FOR YOUR LEGENDARY KINDNESS!!!

Duncan's drawing after Nanc had it framed and matted...I will post a close up as Duncan absolutely caught Buddy's spirit and soul in his eyes. I also apologize as my picture is taken from above looking down (I was so excited) I didn't do Duncan's picture justice.
