"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

just made that rsvp at the cross creek, and tried to call GEC for picnic reservations. still LOLing at Adult Beverages.

Ali was the greatest in an era of great heavyweights. Of course there was no PPV then; you had to pay to go to a big sports venue and watch the fight on a big screen, rubbing shoulders with rabid fight fans from all over town. Sure beat sitting in a living room, crowding around the TV and eating Doritos.

As a kid, I remember watching Ali fight (Ernie Shavers, Larry Holmes, Leon Spinks) on TV in our living room. Howard Cosell and Ali on broadcast TV. Those were the days! RIP, Champ.

Ñiiiice.Who makes those pens and do they do a fountain pen?
Very classy.

My Dad was a golden glove boxer and was in boxing in college as well. He couldn't stand Cassius Clay in the beginning...to brash and outright cocky. My Dad did a 180° as Ali was his all time favorite. Together we watched the fights Mark mentioned above. My Dad was always a man of his word and admired that Ali did what he said he was gonna do. Ali was a warrior in the ring with his fists and brain and a true humanitarian outside the ring.

Rest in peace Muhammad:thumbup:

Well said Paul. Ali was a champion on many levels.
Not a great boxing fan myself but I will always remember the "were gonna whup MS and thats not talk Cause the man on the job is Jonas Salk" campaign.

Thinking about Ali's death I remembered when Mike Tyson took a bite out of Evander Holyfield's ear. Don't know why I thought of it but to me that was the craziest moment in boxing history.

Ali had a big mouth, but his abilities were unparalleled. One of my favorite Ali quote; "It's not bragging if you can back it up"

I had my first real use of a SAK punch today: fishing out the tied end of a shot shock cord from a tent pole's collar. And so the justification for acquiring the forum knife begins... ;)

In other news, the yellow pages arrived today. They used to go straight to the recycling bin, but this one is tucked away safely with my sharpening stones. Little does it know that it won't be my fingers that'll be doing the walking through its pages. :D

Yes, my wife wondered why I was so happy when the recent yellow pages showed up. :D
