"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The Highland Lakes of Central Texas haven't been this full for six years. Back in 2013, at about 30 percent, Lake Travis looked like a topographical map, and I was convinced it could no longer be called a drought, it was just the new normal. So, even with the flooding, I'm not hearing much complaining.

However, I wouldn't mind if it stopped raining for a few days now......:)

Ladies and gentletrads, I have a favour to ask;

If any of you who are going to the GEC rendezvous this year feel like you might be able to act as a proxy for those of us (well just me really) stuck in the confines of the UK, please send me a PM.

Much obliged, Paul

Jolipapa, I hope all is well with you and yours. I have been watching the news on the increasing flooding of the Seine and how it's even a threat now to the Louvre and the art works on the lower level.

It seems like the weather all over the world is going nuts. It's been a record rainy season here in Texas as well, with flooding in Houston. Our niece had to evacuate her neighborhood. Should we be building boats?

Thank you for your concern!
It seems there won't be any flooding downtown (exept a few cellars on the St Louis island), but there is a lot in suburbs and country around, a highway is still blocked! The three reservoirs around Paris are quite full.
The Louvre and Orsay museum have a long experience (at least since the nazis occupation) to move the treasures away and have been very busy these days :)
The usal (unofficial) reference is the Alma bridge "zouave" (a XIXth cent. soldier statue), usually the water is way under his feet, now to his waist (+6m) and the last great flooding of 1910 was +8m10 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont_de_l'Alma). Seems the water does not go higher now than 6m09 and rain has finally stopped.
Situation is really much worse around Orleans (#200miles south west)

This!!!

In 2013, when I first looked at Georgetown for re-settlement, I found Lake Georgetown a half empty large hole in the ground of Texas landscape. Not reassuring to a east coast lad. It almost made me forget about settling here. Now Lake Georgetown is so full, you can see the roofs of the lakeside picnic shelters poking above the water. Lake level well past the bank.

WOW!!!

I guess maybe it was a good thing I didn't indulge my fantasy about living on a barge on the riverside in Paris. Being from a watery climate of the Chesapeake Bay, I've toyed with the concept of both the barge on the Seine of a narrow boat on the English canals.

So I had memorable day with some important knifes

Tyler

Congratulations, Tyler!! Well done!:thumbup: Excellent knives, too!
Are you sticking with the electrician trade?
(Folks have been complaining about how long ago their high school graduations were; I can report that mine was less than 50 years ago! :D)

The problems with the barges were the electric supply that could get wet or cut and the height of the mooring poles. For all the other boats there was not enough space under the bridges to navigate.

Ali was the greatest in an era of great heavyweights. Of course there was no PPV then; you had to pay to go to a big sports venue and watch the fight on a big screen, rubbing shoulders with rabid fight fans from all over town. Sure beat sitting in a living room, crowding around the TV and eating Doritos.

Little bit of rain and everyone starts freaking out-including SWMBO who sent me up the garden to unclog the gutter then took photos from inside the house. Thanks sweetie.
The Mt Keira mist has been a tad heavy for the last couple of days. Due to the orographic effect Wollongong has the 3rd highest mean annual rainfall in all of Australia.:)

Jolipapa I love those photos of the Parisian hunter statue. Captions-

When I was a kid, whittlin' had two meanings, the one we use here, and in Yorkshire parlance, to worry, particularly when vocalised (eg "Stop whittlin' mother!") It's used in this Yorkshire version of Jack & The Beanstalk! :D - https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...B#v=onepage&q=stop whittlin yorkshire&f=false

yabut, NEXT Sunday it'll only be 108 and you can go outside and play then;)

Picked up a couple new pens at the local gun show this weekend. Bolt action and all. What do you guys think?
