Has that changed now that we're supposedly buddy-buddy with Cuba again?

Really would like to get my hands on a box of Romeo y Julietas (not Dominican) without having customs all on my case.

it has indeed. I was in the cigar shop discussing it with the workers. its slow work and you have to be careful not to get tricked by fakes. my old neighbor used to have some cubans. they were "gifts" but he looked like government anyway. Up here in nyc, its doable if you know where to go. But i figured since you are in South Florida, it cant be that hard to put your hands on some, right?

I'd imagine not. I haven't set foot inside a tobacconist's since I quit smoking cigarettes three and a half years ago. I figure I should be in a place where I can survive a stogie or two. Maybe I'll venture out this weekend and look.

Thanks! Every time I walk into a store and see the prices I realize my timing was impeccable. The states are gouging the crap out of smokers nowadays. Plus the whole cancer/COPD/cardiac/general unhealthfulness thing.

Nice Barrett, and good on you JP  Say Barrett, whereabouts are your brother and his wife moving to?

They're moving to Bath; my brother accepted a job at Bath Spa University. He's got the visa and all that squared away, and they've been going through the process of selling their house (which they've thankfully sold) and many of their belongings. They have a 1 year old daughter, so it should be quite an adventure for them. (I will say that our mom is not so excited about her granddaughter moving so far away, but the rest of us are happy for them and we're all looking forward to visiting.)

My wife and I often talk about our dream vacation that we'll take some day, to Britain, Scotland, and Ireland. I hope we are able to do it within the next 7 years.

I have a couple of friends in Bath, possibly at the university (I haven't seen them since they moved there from Brighton), small world! :) I hope it goes well for them, and be sure to let me know if you ever visit Barrett

Kind of a sad tale, Randy; sorry to hear you feel so bad about the way things turned out. :(
For what it's worth, I was ecstatic to see that you still have that display of Case chestnut jigged bone knives. I remember your picking those up as one of the first times I noticed this r redden guy and thought, "That guy has good luck and great taste!!" In my opinion, just having that display case full of a "matched set" of knives means you've got a VERY fine knife collection!!:thumbup:

Thanks Gary I just couldn't bring myself to sell them. I really like those knives and the amount I paid for them. :D

Good for you for quitting Tsar. I quit several years ago and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

still better than my guitar gear and stuff! i remember in hs when i thought dude! get a guitar, chicks dig that. you can so play! Three guitar later, 1 acoustic and 2 electrics, 1 violin turns out im not much of a string guy can barely play ode to joy. My harmonica collection just about comes up to $600 actually, which is the instrument ive truly had a passion for. I have definitely spent twice if not triple that on various knives. I still remember when my dad told me not to get an engraving jig for ring making because he learned the old school way and I should too if i was inclined whisome days I am, actually just sent another ring with him for casting soon. You can always get more knives :D also found out the more I look at these rolexes, the more im tempted to buy , hope you got your money's worth! what was the guitar collection before this?

I hope you get that Rolex Jack My son is wearing mine and I think I'll go ahead and give it to him. He is a really good man and with 3 kids in college at one time he sure won't be able to buy one anytime soon. As far as the guitars there were 50 years worth of collecting them so to say the least it was substantial.

This thread is reminding me of when I had to sell my Alembic Epic 4-string. One of the worst days of my life. I don't even miss my G-K heads as much as I do that bass.

Wow Tsar Alembic is the grail for a lot of bassist and they can get quite pricey as well. They also make a 8 string I can't imagine how wide that neck must be, We had a guy that played with us for a while that played a Series 1. It would be a neat project to get the musicians here on the porch to record a song or two we could do it by email where everyone could record their parts and then get one of us to mix it down.

I sure hope you guy's get to go. My wife and I had planned to take our granddaughters to the Bahamas this month but I have developed a very large hernia that is going to be removed Aug.9 and she has to have a section of her aorta replaced the first of September so we have put everything on hold this year. We are now thinking that if everything goes well we may go to Europe next year.

Hey Randy, hope everything goes smoothly! I got my first one several months ago. I saw it in a second hand shop earlier in january and it just stole my heart. Funny thing is, when I was a kid first collecting watches, I swore Id never buy a rolex. Finally got things settled after the ebay debacle. i know i know, never buy a rolex on ebay!

Ebay is a two edged sword. I have found a lot of things I wanted there like that Boker I wanted but just the other day I saw a fake Sebenza actually listed as a Sebenza clone with logo and all shipped from the US. Of course I contacted CRK with a link and they replied thanking me and telling me they would follow up.

Thanks, Randy. I had tried a number of times before but it was always difficult. It was actually the ecig/vape revolution that did the job; I used commercial ecigs to "step down" from higher doses to lower doses and eventually vapor-only, for which which I bought all of one refill pack. Haven't touched the stuff since. It's no puzzle why FDA and the states are so adamant about disavowing ecigs as a valid quitting mechanism (think tobacco lobby) but I won't stray into the political arena and risk the ire of the red-names. :)

It was the culmination of my twenties, really (and cost more than any individual automobile I owned throughout that decade :o). At the time I was trying to make a go of music, but sadly life and its financial obligations intervened. I loved that bass, though. :o Good idea about a "porch song" project. :D

I am currently dealing with a seller many of you probably know (and whose ID I will gleefully spam all over GB&U and other sordid corners of our fair forums if he fails to make good) who claims to have shipped my items to the proper address yet the postmaster at the local post office can find no record thereof. The USPS tracking system went dark for a long time on this shipment; for a while it was weeks behind, and indicating the package was still in transit. Suddenly, last week, there was a backdated "HOLD EXPIRED" tracking event and customer service told me the parcel was shipped back to the seller. This is a substantial transaction, which is giving me pause -- did he decide I "lucked out" on some of the bids and figure he could resell them for more? He also dragged his feet so long that the automated fleabay "get your $#!* together" nastygram systems no longer work, despite my regular patient and polite efforts to communicate. I did some investigating and I have found that I do have the option to drop a lawsuit if necessary, and I've still got 7 days left to mark every item in the transaction as negative (apparently this is a deterrent for people who plan to continue selling items in the future). Waiting on his final response before I move forward with dropping the Hammer of Justice atop his head tonight. We'll see...

On the upside, that Schrade K-Ting Rope knife I posted a little while ago was a good fleabay story. Got it for a very good price, seller shipped the wrong knife. Since I was already inundated I just let it sit and figured I'd either deal with it "later" or eat the loss, as I have no need for another yeller clamshell fish knife. I even heard from the seller on the phone but I was in the middle of a meeting at work and could not stop and address it. Long and short, the seller found and sent the Schrade before even arranging a return for the fish knife. I'm currently waiting to hear back from him since I lost the original envelope so I can ship the fish knife back at my own expense in thanks.

it is indeed. the most experienced of rolex members would only tread with caution. they do have a nice watch out! section that helps. but such an item is way too expensive to get on Ebay imo. i dont know what i was thinking! I think i used to frequent the sebenza section here, but for some reason could never justify paying that much for a single knife. the quality is there, i dont doubt it, but its still too much.

that is indeed correct. I work in a pulmonary clinic and we stay abreast of all of these issues. patients tell us all the time that they are trying the e-cig to quit. and we go because they still dont know whats in that stuff and there is so much variation between the companies, we will find out in 20 years all the lung problems e-cig and vaping causes. thats why we rather they find alternative methods of quitting if possible

I just spent the better part of two hours getting a groundhog out of my garage, wasn't fast enough on the trigger to kill it before it scurried to the woods. They've been showing up in the area for the last few years.

They are horrible near me. One chased one of my dogs years ago. They are destructive. I saw one staring at me from the top of a tree on the way to work one morning.

Looks like meats back on the menu boys! (lotr fans would lol)
I've heard they stink when they are skinned, they stink when they are cooked and taste like death.

Just the right flavor for Uruk Hai and Orc ;)...
