LOL! Fantastic, I hope you have that speed! :D  I rewatched the first Terminator film just the other day, I think it's still my favourite of the series :) The hairstyles have certainly dated though! :D

I'm afraid I meant 'run away from the cinema'! ;) :D A few years ago, I was surprised when one of my daughters asked me to get her Forrest Gump on DVD, telling me that it was her favourite film. Of course, I obliged, but I couldn't help wincing! ;) :D

Certainly some of James Cameron's Best work! unfortunately the rest of it has not been so good. I actually met Arnold and took a selfie with him at the premiere for Terminator Genisys. I was absolutely starstruck. Very friendly guy actually. Huge Fan!

Also Gump has somewhat inspired this southern accent my patient's think they hear when I talk to them. But the doctors all swear the patients are nuts, cause Im from brooklyn and I have a very distinct brooklyn accent.

In many ways, the film reminds me of some of John Carpenter's work. That's great, he was a huge figure in 1980's cinema

Hilarious! :D

Sunday my daughter told me she had a gift on order for father's day and it would be delivered to my home this week. It came today and I was surprised to receive a Case Father Daughter Commemorative Trapper. Needless to say this will be a safe queen stored with a light coat of Ren Wax on the blades and the occasional mineral oil bath.

Fantastic Randy, very pleased for you my friend :)

Interesting morning at our house. Wife woke me up around 4:30 am saying that the water wasn't working properly (barely a trickle coming out of the faucet). I asked her if she paid the water bill (got a dirty look for that one, but hey, I was half asleep :D), then I got up, went downstairs and heard what sounded like the washing machine running, which didn't make sense because we had both been asleep up until just then. As I got closer to the laundry room, I realized the sound wasn't coming from there, but from the garage, which couldn't be good. I opened the door to about 5 inches of standing water on the garage floor (thankfully the door into the house is about a 6 inch step up) and water gushing out of the water softener. I opened up the flood gates (aka, the garage door) to let all the water out, took a quick look at the water softener (not sure what I was going to do, as I'm certainly no plumber), then scrambled around the side of the house looking for the valve to shut the water off (which I thankfully found).

Spent the rest of the morning hauling wet cardboard boxes out of the garage (thankfully nothing too valuable in there) and waiting on the plumber to show up. Looks like we'll be getting a new water softener (which might eat into the new knife budget ), but it could have been a lot worse. We have a couple wet walls, but thanks to the lack of humidity out here, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. I don't think they got wet enough for long enough to do any real damage (mostly just messed up the paint), and the bottom 6 inches of the walls in the garage are concrete, so no trouble with the standing water.

One bonus from all this: we're having Christmas in June! :D

(The Christmas tree box was soaked, and the tree was a bit wet inside, so we're just letting dry out for a bit.)

Barrett sorry to hear of your garage flooding. I know from personal experience what water breaking loose inside your home while you are sleeping is like. About 30 years or so ago before I built our house we lived in a mobile home here on the property and I awoke one Sunday morning to the sound of gushing water. The small water heater that was located in a false cabinet in the kitchen had ruptured. We got the water cut off and I took off to Lowes bought a replacement installed it and cleaned up the mess thinking I was done. About three days later was when I learned about the particle board used for flooring in a mobile home. The floors looked like a roller coaster where they had buckled in the kitchen, living room and a 1/2 bath. The insurance adjuster came and wrote us check. Since I did the work myself I ended up profiting from the mishap but it was quite a hassle.

By the way Merry Christmas :D. (sorry I couldn't help myself)

Randy, what a wonderful gift!!! Very Special indeed:thumbup:

Barrett, I like your attitude as things can always be worse than they are. The silver lining? Christmas in June:D

Barrett, sorry to hear about your water softener. I'm glad to hear, though, that the damage wasn't worse.

We've had two water heaters fail over the past ten years, both while I was traveling. Fortunately, my wife was home for both. "Honey, there's water flowing out the side of the garage..."

Great that your good cheer is intact. Enjoy that June Christmas!

Thanks, guys! I always try to stay positive about stuff like this when it happens. It is frustrating at first (well, at 4 am when you find your garage has turned into a kiddie pool with a fountain feature, it's more bewildering than anything), but this crap happens, not much you can do but deal with it.

Speaking of Christmas in June/July, one of my favorite local breweries/restaurants is having their annual Christmas in July event in a few weeks, where they tap a couple kegs of their Winter Warmer (a spiced strong ale they serve with homemade ginger snap cookies that are almost as good as the beer, and pair perfectly with it). Hoping we'll get to go, although the wife will be approximately 39 1/2 weeks pregnant at that point, so we'll see.

I've been several times over the years Tyler. Good times.

Woke up to a rainy gloomy morning grabbed a cup of coffee and my laptop. Sat down logged on to BF had a private Message and all of a sudden the gloomy day got a whole lot sunnier. Seems Glennbad is finished with two more of my knives and has shipped them. First thing I did was check the tracking even though I knew it would be a day or two before I received them. Funny how excited we get when we know we have a knife package on the way. It's a little reminiscent of a kid waiting on a birthday or Christmas.

Good Morning!

Yesterday morning I went for a trail run at one of my favorite places: Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. I'm working on getting back into running shape and was feeling pretty tired, but having a great time nonetheless. There were a lot of other folks out enjoying the day and the space and I decided to say good morning to as many of them as I could. With each warmly returned good morning, my pace demonstrably increased for a bit, feeling buoyed by that simple sharing of a moment with others enjoying a beautiful space. It reminded me of what a powerful phrase "good morning" or "good afternoon" can be.

Here's a friendly challenge for you today: go out of your way to say "good morning" or "good afternoon" to a few folks whose paths cross yours today. You'll be spreading the good cheer of The Porch and may just make someone's day. Or they may make yours. :)

Good Morning!
