"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The Trident were 3 cyl, produced 1969 - 76 (the BSA Rocket III had the same engine, just sloped forward - why make it simple if you can get it complicated?) a very quick but heavy and fragile machine. According to the sources, it could be a TR6 or a T110. Here is Bud Ekins.

Cool pics JP

They used Triumph Tridents for The Great Escape. TR6 I believe. They were disguised to look like BMW's. Von Dutch did the make overs for Bud Ekins. Bud supplied the bikes for the movie and he performed the infamous jump scene, but Steve McQueen did all the rest of his own riding stunts for the movie.
Can you tell I liked the movie? :D

That sounds like solid info Bob! :D

This weekend is the custom knife show at the old Bill Moran shop in Middletown MD. I'm going to be there, probably coming by in the afternoon. A woodcarver/knifemaker coworker/buddy of mine is there, Ron Myers, along with some other knife makers. They plan on being set up under a pavilion. The weather will be in the upper 80s out there this weekend. It's summer, so thunder showers are possible. I love that area. I'm broker than a bunkhouse rat as my father says, but I'll be there. Going to work a couple hours OT before I head out there though. The show is free and it looks like they will have demonstrations and a tour of the shop. I've driven past his shop a couple dozen times, but never set foot inside.

GT, thanks for sharing the photos from your vacation. Sounds like you had a good time. Whenever my family's all together (usually at Christmas), we'll do a large puzzle, too. This was last year's:

Regarding roomy back seats, well, this was my first car in high school. :D

(I still have it. I don't take it out as often as I should, and it needs some work, but I don't know that I could bring myself to get rid of it.)

That puzzle is the type I enjoy, Barrett! Most of the pieces are "recognizable" in the sense that, with a little effort, one can probably identify where in the puzzle the piece belongs.

That car is cool, Barrett! Is that an old Checker manufactured in Kalamazoo, MI??

Yep! It's a 1976 Checker Marathon. This one was never used as a taxi, but was sold as a consumer vehicle (which Checker did at one time). I'd have to imagine it would be difficult to market a car when the next year's model looks exactly like the previous year's model (and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that…). :D

So identify the only 3 who escaped in the movie or you vill go to ze cooler...20days.They certainly did a better job of disguising the bike than they did in Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. The nazis chased Ford and Connery on obvious modern day dirt squirters.:D

Sedgewick, Danny and Willy. I remember Sedgewick was played by James Coburn and Danny was Charles Bronson. I don't remember who played Willy.

Still works in the knife biz. :)

It is hard to say for sure, but it looks like it has two carbs, which would make it a T110.

I would appreciate your prayers for my aunt, cousins and their families. My uncle passed away early this morning, he had been fighting cancer for the past ten years. If I'm friends with you on FB, please don't share anything, I appreciate your prayers, good thoughts and smoke, but I don't want to say anything on FB until the extended family is notified.

I know we have members over in the Louisiana area, and I now Woodrow is in Baton Rouge, so I'm hoping they are okay.

Woodrow, let us know how you're doing!

My condolences to your family, Dan. May he rest in peace. Ten years is a long time to fight.
Prayers to those suffering in Louisiana.

My condolences as well, prayers and thoughts be with you and your family in these trying times. 10 years is a quite the fight!
